Hmmm. I read somewhere that The Orville cost 7 mil a pop. Maybe that was season 1? Still. off the approved project tax break list? Curious, but not unexpected.
I think the CFC only counts the part of the budget going to crew and vendors and whatnot so that 5m per episode isn't counting writers, directors, actors, etc..

And based on the CFC numbers season 1 of Orville was about 3.3m per episode.

Ah. Well, that explains things.

I guess they gave the Picard show the same budget as Discovery overall, but will only get 10 episodes out of it because... California. Maybe with some long scenes centered around Jean-Luc waiting patiently for his Earl Grey hot at the replicator, or him flipping through a thick book they will be able to pad each ep to 60 minutes. thanfully the Loonie will keep the number of jampacked Disco and S31 eps in the 13-15 range.

I kinda hope and expect that the Picard show will not have gigantic (expensive) space battles.

One thing Kurtzman has been clear on is that every single Trek series is supposed to be very different in tone and presentation. Much, much more different than we are used to, because he apparently thinks that DS9 and VOY were so similar that casual viewers had trouble telling them apart.

I will just be him sitting in his office playing with his models and making the sound effects himself while he pockets the entire $7.5 mil an episode production budget.

Most of the casual viewers I knew back in the 90s (about a dozen or so) did have trouble with that.

To quote my uncle in 1990-something: "Voyager is the one with Picard?" When asked about what he thought about Star Trek, he'd say, "Too many funny faces!"

When in America, he tried to be as American as possible. His favorite show was Baywatch and the week before I started high school, he wanted to show me Beverly Hills 90210, just to show me what high school was really like. I kid you not. He was a character.

Bouncing boobies on the beach! Always a winner!:D

I have a weird feeling Picard won’t really take place on a starship. Maybe some kind of runabout. So many sets will be either filmed on locations or planets of the week. Dunno if that hurts or helps budget.
I think we'll get mostly interior and on the ground sets for anything involving Picard on the screen; and if there's any 'action' as a result of what his actions/decisions involving Starfleet or other ships, we'll get cutaways to, and scenes on said ships that relate to the overall story the writers are telling.

It also may be a situation where Picard is being ferried to some location for a diplomatic meeting, and stuff happens on the way.

As its going to be a lot more expensive per episode than The Orville, and considering the main cast write-ups, I don't think its going to be a series about ferrying Picard from one diplomatic meeting to another.

i don't think there's enough money on the planet to get stewart on board for sth like that

I beg to differ. Stewart's been in a few sitcoms already. Some haven't been quite a success though.

For example, he's played a gay opera director on Frasier. He was quite good in that role.:D
