There's also that guy at Starfleet HQ that debriefs Pike, Number One, Spock and Tyler. He might be another one of Control's recreations. They don't even seem to show his entire face for some reason.
psst! it's picard (timetravelling when he still had hair) :ack:

It kinda looks like the DOT-7's began to cut away the hull around the weapon from the outside.

That also probably helped redirect the blast away from the hull and mitigated any major damage to the back and below.

Heh...
Yer watchin' Star Trek, when has everything ever been completely consistent.

Also, I'll never understand why folks always look for the negative in things, rather than being just a tad bit imaginative.
How about embracing the Positive and FUN aspects of Figuring Things Out For Themselves.
:techman:
Because if you give them too much rope, you end up with Star Trek 2009 or Into Darkness. Trek has fantastical elements (such as how they can produce enough energy from anti-matter to warp space) but I love the Refit because there is a lot of engineering logic to how the ship is laid out (check out some awesome threads in the fan art section where actual engineers are modelling the ship). I'm a bit mystified by the Turbolift network but it must traverse the saucer to get to the engineering section.

From a safety perspective not having an emergency lever on the Turbolift side is even crazier. The shafts go all over the ship.

Please don't mention them enlarging the ship. It wasn't necessary and is an insult to logic.

I am not looking for negative things, they stare me straight in the face. I am certainly willing to be imaginative to explain minor mistakes, but if I need to rewrite half of the episode in my head for the basic story to make sense, then that definitely detracts from fun and means that the writers didn't do their jobs.

took me two viewings but i give it a 9 for the pure spectacle and pathos of it. did it make much sense or develop the story in any interesting way? not really. did the characters state that they were going to do X and then proceed to do X with few surprises in between? pretty much.

but man was this episode beautiful.

unfortunately that ending makes it seem like the series is shifting focus to pike and crew, following them in the epilogue instead of giving us a glimpse into the fate of michael and the gang. i hate that i still find that a more exciting prospect than star trek voyager-ing into the 31st century. but i appreciate that i have no idea how they’ll resolve that plot point.

i’ll miss the pre-TOS/unnecessary prequel setting. as i’ve said before, i liked that discovery traded in that iconography while still carving its own path through canon. but i guess nostalgia only gets a show so far.

The turbolifts fit tight against the openings, how does one put a matching lever that's accessible on the other side?

Then the way you watch TV shows is obviously with waaay more critical an eye than I do.

I'm watching to be Entertained, not to be completely satisfied with how the technical aspects of the event's in the story are compared to real life.
I think they might just call it Science FICTION for a particular reason.
But that's just me.

why? that signal shows us that they made it. that's enough for me right now. the actual ending of the episode keeps the pike-fans on board and shows us how things are wrapped up in the time frame used so far.

the third season will be about discovery. i hope they refrain from putting in enterprise episodes but they might do that (kinda like 'meanwhile in the now').

i think if their figures support it there will be a limited pike series (maybe 8 episodes a season) for the trek less times. they could announce it halfway into the discovery less time in a sorry, that won't happen again way.

bring it on

That it is science fiction doesn't mean that basic motivations and logic can be ignored or that important plot points introduced in the previous part of the same two-parter can be ignored.

Yeaah, now yer just looking for reasons to criticize and to disparage the show.

We defiantly don't view Trek in the same manner.
This is one of those agree to disagree moments and it's time for me to move on.

Certainly. If you don't think that not keeping a major plot point consistent between the two parts of the same episode is valid criticism, then we certainly do not have compatible standard for evaluating storytelling.

What exactly does that have to do with the conversation about a lever, a turbolift and an Unexploded Missile all contained in the same episode?

Like I said, you just want to be ornery and I'm not going to play that game today.
