But...but...everyone's PERFECT! Gene's VISION!

^^^The trouble with this dsc arc is there's no real drama/suspense since we know sentient life survives and control is thwarted. It's like in TOS, the ship would be in danger. Except you knew it'd be fine. Because next episode. I am definitely liking the Spock Burnham arc since I can't have issue of the week fun.
The first 26 episodes of ST: D writing wise have been leaps and bounds over the first 26 of TNG, DS9 or ST: V IMO. If this is what you consider "letting them down" I'm amazed you can watch the first season of any Berman era Star Trek series. The acting throughout the show has been mostly top notch. A shame the writing has let them down more often than not.
Especially to get promotedMy point? If you signed up for Starfleet, you MUST be screwed up, or have issues you're trying to get FAR AWAY FROM in the first place; thus only 'screwed up 24th century people with psychological problems' would make up the bulk of Starfleet personnel in the first place.![]()
The actress was SUPPOSED to become a more major character and love interest for Geordi. (No I'm not kidding that was the plan when she was cast.) Why they didn't follow through with that plan, IDK.Rewatching, or, rather, reading the transcript, for Q Who, it is like experiencing a different race, as the Borg in that episode are vastly different than what they changed into. Another thing I notice is that a minor character, like Gomez, had two scenes which fleshed her out as a character. She was more of a character than many of the bridge crew we have seen on Discovery, who are ciphers.
It was considred in that older TNG episode, as evidence of the advanced technology of the Borg, that they had developed the technology of linking artificial intelligence to a humanoid brain.

Sorry, I never get this line of thinking as given the nature of EVERY TV show like Star Trek, the audience KNOWS in the end the ship, main characters, etc. will survive and triumph at the end of the story. Are you REALLY believing "OMG! everyone will die!" when you watch an episode.
I sometimes even get this reaction when I'm rewatching something I like. "Why are you watching The Empire Strikes Back again? Do you think Han will escape from the freezer this time or something?"^^^

Yeah, exactly. We don't have to have reality threatened to make a story compelling. If the characters are compelling they'll attach themselves to a good story just fine. We can't even really comprehend that much of everything but we can comprehend personal loss or how it affects our relationships and community.Yeah, I really don't get the complaint about knowing the outcome. That being said, I gave to say that I am not really a fan of super high stakes. "The entire multiverse could be destroyed!" "All the sentient life in the galaxy will be wiped out!" It is just so big, abstract and frankly, ludicrous, that it is not terribly relatable.
Whereas I'm just disappointed every single time. We'll get you next time, Bond!absolutely! whenever i watch a bond movie i think 'this time he won't get away with it' - you won't believe how relieved i am when 007 miraculously survives yet again.![]()

You must have hated SG-1 then.Yeah, I really don't get the complaint about knowing the outcome. That being said, I have to say that I am not really a fan of super high stakes. I did, but not for that reason. The whole show was just amateurish trash. You must have hated SG-1 then.
The entire premise of the show from the get go was that the Goa'uld were going to take over the entire GALAXY!
Heh...I did, but not for that reason. The whole show was just amateurish trash.
from a certain point of view, the first half of DISCO season 1 is the Klingons doing their best to keep the federation from taking over the entire galaxy. You must have hated SG-1 then.

Well, I don't stand most of it. Vast majority of genre shows are utter childish rubbish.Heh...
How can you stand ANY Sci-Fi TV then?

Nothing wrong with childishness, it is just embarrassing when it is accidental rather than intentional.Heh...
Perhaps it's time to ease up on the sphincter muscles a bit and try to remember what it's like to have a bit of childish fun once in awhile?
Life is way too short to bury oneself in the seriousness of Everything.

Agreed. That's why I enjoy shows that do not take themselves too seriously. Life is already serious enough.Heh...
