1/10. Terrible.

Oh man... I can't even.

Pros:

- Anson's performance as Pike

- 10 Million on SFX

Cons:

- Everything else.

Funny about the self-indulgent writing going on during Burnham's last monologue by the departing showrunners.

Fuck this show.

Fuck Harberts and Berg.

Good riddance jackasses.
it was written by Kirsten Beyer

I don't know about that. Last week I compared it to Larry Niven's Protectors. The Baul could be the next stage of development of Klepians, the more adult version. The Protectors look a lot different that humans too.

I tend to agree with you here. :)

Well, this was the second episode in a row that caused me to tear up a little, though I liked "An Obol for Charon" better.

I'm glad Culber is back as a flesh and blood human and I'm happy that the explanation for how he was brought back was a lot less "woo" than perhaps some people feared... i.e., it's kind of a relief to now know that Star Trek isn't going all mystical by treating the mycelial network like some kind of supernatural realm or actual factual afterlife, but rather, that there was a scientific basis of sorts for Hugh's continued existence.

When did May and Tilly form this deep bond? It seemed like just a couple episodes ago, Tilly couldn't wait to get rid of her.
The answer to that question would be the Entire Mycelium Network Scenes, of this episode.
Even I picked up on that particular aspect of the episode.

The Section 31 stuff made no sense and for me reinforces the non-Prime argument.

31 are not Federation Black Ops. The Federation has Starfleet Intelligence for that. Section 31 is a SECRET organization. (Also defeats the purpose of having INSIGNIA broadcasting to the universe that you're a super-duper hush-hush kill-kill strut-strut organization...well, maybe not that last part...) They're also genocidal. (You know, the thing Season 1 told us was bad?)

And of course Pike and Leland knew each other.

What's that supposed to be? The Light and Dark sides of the Starfleet Force? Give me a break, guru.

The whole point of Star Trek's...now lip-service is the better future, yet its low-hanging-fruit-reaching writers come up with the most mundane ways to come up with drama THAT UNDERCUT THE ENTIRE IDEA THAT YOU CAN BE COMPETENT AND GOOD. You know, Star Trek.

I still feel that Tilly's transition from May's hostage to May's bestie happened a little quickly, but I'll see if my opinion of that changes when I rewatch the episode.

I like Beyer and have a lot of time for her. I love her voyager novels (among the best treklit I'd argue) and she knows trek canon and licenced fiction really well (and is apparently the originator of the new Picard show). She of course knows what 31 is in traditional trek media (given what 31 is in current interwoven Treklit - indeed the super secret organisation that does all sort of nefarious things, and when revealed to the public in Control leads to all sorts of recriminations and legal issues), but 31 in this show is different (like how MI5 was before 1989 I guess, the Secret Service, known but not known), and thus as a show writer she must write as such - as indeed a team-written TV show is done, you don't write rogue entries, you follow the showrunners and the show bible or current unspoken state of affairs. And if course drafts are modified by colleagues. And it's not a bad take either on 31, just different.

Overall, I liked this episode, more than last week. Looking forward to what happens next.

I really enjoyed the episode. It felt like a 'lost at sea' kind of tale. Beautiful reunion between Paul and Hugh. Weirdly I didn't mind how May and Tilly bonded despite the circumstances, I felt both the actresses sold the emotion behind it.
Liked how spicy the Michael/Georgiou stuff is right now. I am interested to see how Tyler fits back in, considering his past actions on the ship. He was accepted back in some ways but now Dr. Culber has been recovered and that will create more tension, I presume. Leland seems a good addition, although he's the kind of character we've seen before.

It was a real treat to see Mary Wiseman extend her range as Tilly. We saw fear, resentment, anger and frustration. Then Tilly clamped it all down again and asked how she could help. Then she was showing her bravery and smarts. Then at the end, she allowed herself to be overwhelmed and comforted by Micheal. Great work.

Nhan is now Head of Security? That's a change from being called an engineering officer in the premiere. But I'll accept it. Hopefully she fares better than Landry.

After seeing the preview for next week I think I have a working theory about Kanimar and Saru's story arc. Are we allowed to discuss the preview here?

I would agree this whole Blake's 7 meets Seal Team 6 with a twist thing is slightly more palatable than the "Grr Evil Sloane Rouges Whatever" thing from DS9. But it's still pretty silly.

I could go with the Emperor with Many Names as Section 31's Avon type character. Such character's are awesome and rare to come by.

The softening of emperor Georgiou started earlier this season. In the scene between her and Tyler (who is holding the voq baby), she is looking at the baby with affection but the moment Tyler looks at her she changes back to the cold emperor. Since she is going to be the main character of a series obviously they are going to soften her more. Burnham is the obvious character to bring out the good in her (kind of like Luke and Vader).

Good script by Kirsten Beyer. She is 2 for 2.

I liked it that they showed Tyler's reaction when the Culber being alive was announced on the bridge.

I like the actress playing May. She does creepy really well.

I like Burnham, but agree that her monologues are a little annoying. But she is the main character, so we have to live with it. It's basically her version of Captain's log.

Didn't like the mention of time travel regarding the Red Angels. I hope they stay away from that. We had enough of aliens from the future trying to change the past in ENT.

Wow, what an awesome episode - Again! I am moving from really wanting to love DSC to truely believing this is turning out to be my favorite ST show out there. And might I add that the musical score for this one was just epic..... very ambitious, I love Jeff Russo!

I quite enjoyed that, so an 8 from me.

I enjoyed being in the spore network, and was thrilled at seeing Culber in it. Do all of these events mean that they won''t be using the spore drive again, especially as we learnt last week that the jumps were hurting them? Tilly also talked about being cut off after becoming so used to being attached.

I also liked Georgiou being back, though this search for Spock seems to be taking a little longer than I thought.

Softening?

You don't build a network of friends and allies by a being vicious evil dismissive caustic shit. Without a network of friends and allies, Georgiou is not going to accomplish much.

Whatever her final goal, which is probably not taking over, since she has been there and done that, and all being at the top really means is that every bastard underneath is climbing up after you with sharp knives between their teeth, Georgiou is not going to build her house on the sand.

I have to believe the writers know that Section 31 isn't supposed to be this visible, and that instead they're building up to something, perhaps something so terrible, that forces the organization to go underground and erase all record of their existence .

True, Kurtzman himself has said things along these lines.
