It is a shame when "Shhh" is the best line the Klingons have had in three episodes.

That was such a damn stupid scene.

1. Shushing isn't even universal across all earth cultures.
2. Even if we presume it becomes universal, if Klingons were not in contact with the Federation for 100 years, how would a random Klingon grunt know about it?

Welcome to Star Trek? In three episodes, that is the best scene with a Klingon in it.

If this had been TOS, the women would've been hiding behind the men claiming they were frightened. But they are both totally in the same universe and only eight years apart.

Sorry, I don't expect Star Trek to break the fourth wall.

It didn't. At no point did anyone address the audience, imply that they knew this was an episode of television, or reference something they shouldn't know as characters of the show (for example if they reference William Shatner as Kirk). The characters simply used something that you might consider anachronistic or Amero/Eurocentric.

Some better quality screen grabs I took. Really like the design of her character.

Regarding the 'Glen' and it's slug monster or whatever it's name is! - Does anybody think they could be going for a 'Devil in the Dark 'thing with it and Burnham?

I really hope not. She starts mind melding with people and things and this place will turn chaotic.

I always liked it when Shatner does just that, winking at the audience in TMP. I think he does it again in V too. Campy fun.

As for the shushing scene, wasn't the character incredulous that the Klingon was shushing them? Like, they thought it was humorous /surprising?

You may be right but it isn't far fetched to think that 2 species, who's evolution included thousands of years of verbal communication through a hole in the bottom of their face, would cover their mouth in some way, maybe not identically but in some way to signal being quiet.

that and it was funny.

I rewatched it from a bigger screen. I have to say the spaceship effects are not as great as I first thought. I mean they're perfectly serviceable but still look CGIy.

I have to say that apart the mushroom bollocks, I liked Lorca's chat with Michael in the end. The tone of it, I mean. I think that my future enjoyment of this show will greatly depend on whether he was being genuine here. I can get behind him being a sort of eccentric maverick, as long as he is ultimately a good guy who respects Federation's values. If he turns out to be some sort of scheming black ops arsehole I'm probably out.
