Wonderful episode. Discovery really is my cup of tea, and is giving me not only all the things I enjoy about modern TV, but the fantastical and imaginative elements of Trek that always appealed to me (particularly from the 2001 output onwards). I honestly can't understand how ANYONE can, with a straight face, claim that Discovery is inferior in quality to the first three episodes of any other Trek show. But to each their own - I survived as an ENT fan when Trekkies were pulling their OTT hate back in 2001, so I'll turn a blind eye here too.
Great visuals, interesting ideas, and some lovely little moments with this new set of characters. Burnham really is the lead here, and if her rank was "Captain," I don't think we'd be seeing the same amount of complaints about heavy focus on her. It's been stated from day one that she is the lead, so can't say I understand where the complaints are coming from...
Saru is fun, and I sense he will become a classic fan favourite as time goes by. His scenes with Burnham are top drawer, and I look forward to seeing him interact with others.
Lorca is everything I want in a 2017 Star Trek captain.
