This show takes itself very seriously and has no sense of levity at all. Part of what makes Star Trek stand out is the optimistic vision of the future. Removing that makes it feel like generic SciFi.

People in the penal system wouldn't be called "garbage" in an enlightened future society. That was totally unnecessary as was most of the animosity between characters. You can have conflict between characters in Star Trek, but just making everyone an a-hole for the sake of it is stupid and pointless.

Just like the a-hole Starfleet guard in Star Trek III, would made a point to mock Sulu by calling him "tiny"?

The condescension isn't helping your case.

Please see last post. This is just a discussion, I couldn't care less if I convince everyone-- people are free to continue in their opinions and beliefs-- but it's hard to HAVE a discussion when people can't follow basic points.

While the security chief didn't come off smelling like a bouquet of roses in this episode, maybe we can be a little less offended on behalf of the racist multiple-murder she was referring to?

Holy gd f... READ WHAT I WROTE.

The poll showed a massive amount more people watched orville despite actual ratings and viewing figures being nearly identical.

Why do I need to say it 5 times?

By your own description that's not what the poll showed.

It merely showed that Orville fans responded to a poll in greater numbers than Discovery fans.

What part of that is hard for you to understand?

Is Sylvia supposed to be a lil nod to Barclay from TNG? Since Barclay was also special needs?

Tried matching up the map in Lorca's office with Star Charts

Best episode yet. It was nice to finally see the Discovery and get a sense of what they are attempting. There are still plenty of mysteries left though.

On a side note, I tried watching it with Roku, but kept getting kicked out every 3 minutes or so. Had to watch it online. Anyone else have the same problem?
I watched it on my roku tv and had no problems with it. except I did notice I had to raise the volume quite high to hear everything

You're insulting people, and treating them like they're incapable of understanding the poll you're talking about. You know, the one you haven't indicated yet even though it has been asked of you "what poll?"

Oh boy, it's pretty clear fans on this site can't read or lack crucial brain cells. It was a viewership poll, not which you preferred.

Let's take this real slow...

Who responded to it?

Who didn't respond to it?

What does this have to do with hate or spam?

If anyone here is unclear on any of this, it's you.

Fixed that for you.
There was no need to fix it, as nothing was wrong. This is the Discoveryverse. It has been called the prime timeline and I accept it as such, but on DSC, there does seem to be a pronounced hate of Andorians.

Ah the classic "he likes it so it must be the creator" comment. It's almost like Godwin's Law.
It was a joke - although you do seem a bit too invested in the show. It's a show, we're all fans to some extent, so take your anxiety meds and try and have a good time :bolian:

I'm still on the fence about the show, but I will say I wish this had been the first episode. We get introduced to some of the crew of Discovery here. I think the Captain certainly is a man of mystery, at this point he gives off a weird/dark vibe. But it makes me want to find out more. Just like I'd like to see how the rest of the crew interacts and see their relationships. So I'm still staying tuned

Because Discovery is set in the Prime Timeline, it doesn't constitute its own universe... hence why the term "Discoveryverse" is erroneous.
