Star Trek Continues, Episode 5....

To me, the guy on the left looks younger than the guy on the right. :) I think Vic has a few more years left in him.

Vic certainly looks good for his age and I hope to look that youthful at his age. However, let's not kid ourselves, the guy on the right still looks younger. ;)

If STC were somehow able to wrap up the last two seasons within the next 3-5 years then Vic's age probably wouldn't be an issue. But dragging on longer than that and his age might well start to become an issue.

And at the rate they're going presently there's no way that STC is going to put out 40 plus episodes within the next five years.

This obsessing over Vic's age seems a little silly to me. He's going to keep doing Continues as long as he likes, whether we think he's too old or not. It's hardly a major concern.

^^ No, actually. It was on a podcast sometime ago I'm pretty sure I heard him allude to the possibility of recasting.

In 1969 Shatner was 38. Vic is distinctly older than that I believe.

I wouldn't have guessed it from seeing him, but he's actually 52. He looks at least a decade younger than that, though, so he could last a fair while yet. Karzak's right to say it's probably not a major concern.

Indeed. Conversely, if memory serves, Steve Ihnat was 38 when he played Garth of Izar in "Whom Gods Destroy" whereas Alec Peters is 54 and will be 55 by the time Axanar starts principal photograpy. These things don't really matter much, so long as the performer can do the role justice.

I mean, Patrick Stewart was 46 when he started on TNG. I never would have guessed that just by looking at him, but he's also barely aged a day since then. God help me be as ageless as that man!

Vic does look pretty young and I think it owes to the roles he takes on. Tamaki Suoh, Ed Elric... teenagers. :)

Oh I really don't care how old he is. My previous post was all in jest.

However, I will say this — of all the actors to take up the role of Kirk in a fan production, he has the most presence. While he lapses too much into imitation, at least he is both commanding and charming in the part.

I quite agree. :techman:

Imitation is a good thing if it doesn't turn into parody, and so far that hasn't been the case. Imitation helps the illusion of continuity of the 5 year mission, and without imitation we wouldn't have had that amazing recreation of the "Mirror" scene in "Fairest".

People age differently these days. I'd look younger than my 35 years if I shaved my graying beard and sideburns. Conversely, my great-grandmother died in her mid fifties and in the only picture I have of her she looked like she was in her eighties with her sheet white hair.

I don't think people age differently. I know guys whose beards have gone mostly white by their early 40s.

Exactly. When I went to my 10-year high school reunion, there were guys who looked like they'd aged 20 (balding, greying, paunchy), and they were in their mid-to late 20s...

On STC's FB page they've announced that on Monday, August 10th they will be announcing someone who will be in Ep. 5. Now they said "character" as opposed to "guest performer," but that might be a bit of misdirection given how circumspect STC usually is with letting out info on upcoming episodes.

What I do find amusing (not really) and something that makes my eyes role into the back of my head is reading the remarks of fans on STC's FB page. Despite STC repeatedly saying that they will not be doing crossovers with later productions or indulge in overly heavy callouts to other productions as well as not overdoing it with stories revisting past episodes fans still don't seem to get it. It's obvious by the never ending remarks about doing crossovers and bringing back characters and so forth.

Yeesh!

Thinking about the majority of people that use Facebook, this doesn't surprise me one bit.

Are we going to get a VOY/TOS or DS9/TOS or TNG/TOS crossover? Will they run into the Borg or Cardassians or Xindi or Ferengi? Can we got back to the ganster planet or the Roman planet? How about seeing Gary Seven or Harry Mudd or Cyrano Jones again? How about Sarek and Amanda again? Can we get Kor or Koloth and Kang again? Are we ever getting another time travel story? Might they run into Archer or Tpol?

I just wanna scream, SHUT UP! and pray the STC folks aren't listening. STC is doing fine as they are so far.

I admit there are things I'd like to see in STC, but practically none of it involves looking backward or calling out to other productions.
