"Star Trek Begins" - The 'Origins' Film Discussion

The most obvious thing is Sisko returning, as he promised Kasidy. But it's been 25 years now! Wouldn't missing his child's entire upbringing make him the epitome of the 'deadbeat dad' of which he was always designed to the exact opposite?
Why would Sisko become a deadbeat dad? He exists outside of time and can appear wherever, and whenever.

Nothing stops him from seeing his child at any point.

Well exactly. I prefer to think he did just that.

But a lot of the "DS9 revival" pitches involve Sisko returning after a long absence.

Well, at the end of DS9 we don't know how long Sisko will be with the prophets, when he will return and what willl happen when he comes back. A lot of stuff for new stories... ;)

As long as they never tell us Sisko's fate I can just carry on imagining that Kasidy Yates went to the home they planned to build on Bajor to find that Sisko had secretly been there for months setting it up for them. And then they raised their child together in peace, away from the responsibilities of being the Emissary or a Starfleet captain.

So I can live without a DS9 revival.

This is why I liked the way Lower Decks handled it. Most people assumed Kira having the baseball and looking out the window implied that Sisko still hadn't come back. I don't personally care for that view.

For me, he and Kas have lived on Bajor in relative secret since the end of DS9. (Perhaps he'll outlive her and their child, but that's a tragedy for another day.) Woe to any future canon Trek that screws that up. ;)

Right, yeah. This time, it's happening.
