I can't speak for everyone, but personally, I thought they did it right all along. The '09 designs always felt to me evocative of the 1960s show without being a slave to it, exactly the right way to update that style. They hit that right out of the park.

To me, the Enterprise bridge and interiors from the movies look amazing! Now that's a spaceship I wish to have a tour aboard lol
It is more contemporary and realistic in ways the dark 60s sets couldn't be for obvious reasons.
Look at Uhura and Spock stations for example

This gives the illusion that.. it's real. Not a set.
Even when you watch the movies, if you notice the lights here aren't really 'flashy' . Their stations are appropriately illuminated and they seem to be comfortable.
You can definitely see that the original thing inspired this but they upgraded it all.
The bridge also seems to be way larger than the original one because the idea is that you have more people working there than just the original few. This is especially obvious in a scene from stid when Admiral Marcus wants to destroy the ship and Kirk turns around to look at his crew and he says he is sorry. He isn't just speaking to Spock (who has to walk from his station to reach Uhura who was standing near a door, again giving the idea of a bigger room), Uhura, Sulu ..but to several other people who too are on the bridge.
After all, it is supposed to be a massive ship so it makes sense that the bridge isn't a small place with only a few people.
Sometimes, watching old sci-fi shows is fun precisely because you can see the way fiction has evolved through the years (and each era has a set of similarities you can notice between different products in the same genre), because our technology has evolved too and in such a way that even imagination can be a bit more accurate and realistic even for stuff that doesn't exist yet (such as a very advanced spaceship).
