ST3 Reportedly Being Filmed in Vancouver in 2016

No. It won't.

It may prove to be a lost opportunity for a bit of extra revenue on merchandise but Paramount will be happier with a movie that does well at the box office in 2017 rather than a rushed one that tanks in 2016 just so they can meet an anniversary that holds any meaning whatsoever for a tiny fraction of the overall audience. Better box office will trump lost merchandise revenue.

Yeah, but when a bankrupt studio was still able to get a new movie out to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its franchise, what's Paramount's excuse going to be for not having a Trek movie out for 2016?

And after the big hoopla Doctor Who had for its 50th, even among non-fans, someone at CBS must be looking at that and realizing Star Trek must have a slice of that came. Especially since Disney is going to replicate that for the 40th anniversary of Star Wars in 2017. This is about more than just a date on the calendar, this is about Star Trek's reputation and cred.

Besides, every other Trek anniversary has been celebrated. the 20th had TVH, the 25th had TUC and a special crossover episode of TNG. The 30th had First Contact and crossover episodes on DS9 and Voyager, and the 40th had the remastered TOS. Something needs to be done for the 50th.

Fear not. There will be something. IMHO, I see two important points.

The first is that there are a number of time stamps for marking the 50th, and there is still time. Even stretching until September of 2016, to match the 50th of the air date.

The Second is, even if, because of delays for an actual movie, "the Thing" turns out to be the Mother of All Specials, with behind behind the scenes and hitherto unknowns and clips and flips and never before starships, there will be something.

I don't see any reason why Paramount will be in such a terrible situation that they have to delay the release of nuTrek:III until 2017.

However, Trek fans who would care about the 50th anniversary stuff will watch nuTrek:III in 2016 or 2017.

Yes, of course. But as I said above, there will be. Something. Paramount bleeds Green blood, too, and no way, NO WAY do they let this possibly most iconic date in the history of Movies (the hell with GWtW!) go by.

It occurred to me to try to find actual quotes from Paramount Executives regarding the upcoming Star Trek movie, in order to get a better handle. I am still looking, but I found this, below. Can anyone tell me if this is a reputable, reliable source?

"A new report claims that part of the reason behind the creative changes on Star Trek 3 is because Paramount Pictures is looking to emulate the character- and creature-driven, high-concept sci-fi adventure feel of James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy film.

The claim comes from Devin Faraci, one of nerd-Hollywood's most established reporters and gossip columnists over at Badass Digest. He says, in part, that it was a conflict over the script for the third installment of the rebooted Trek franchise that saw Roberto Orci either leave the project or be escorted out, depending on who's the one doing the talking. Either way, he says, Edgar Wright was indeed offered the role and the reason he isn't on the widely-reported director shortlist is that he declined the offer, perhaps because the same thing that happened to Orci on Trek just happened to Wright on Ant-Man and taking over such a project would likely leave a bad taste in the mouths of all involved.

The report elaborates that Guardians has lit a fire under Paramount, who feel that the good-but-not-overwhelming performance of Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness could be improved upon with the right approach post-JJ Abrams.

"They look at Rocket and Groot and then they look at Keenser and they wonder why he doesn't have more of a role," Faraci wrote, adding that "The Enterprise crew aren't galactic ne'er-do-wells, but many of the best Trek stories have them bouncing off each other."

There's no concrete release date yet for the film, which is expected along in 2016 to capitalize on the 50th anniversary of Star Trek."[/B]

Paramount Reportedly Wants Star Trek 3 To Feel More Like Guardians Of The Galaxy 8

That is the exact same thinking they had when Star Wars hit the screens back in '77.
And why we got TMP instead of Phase II.
I sure as hell hope they don't repeat history exactly the same way this time around.
I love TMP, but it really was obvious at the time that is was a rush job to try and capitalize on Star Wars.

You know, every time you post something about this "Para Mobius" character you're kind of legitimizing his point and fueling his belief of being "one of the biggest stories in Trek." If everyone ignored him, he wouldn't be able to think that.

You know, every time you post something about this "Para Mobius" character you're kind of legitimizing his point and fueling his belief of being "one of the biggest stories in Trek." If everyone ignored him, he wouldn't be able to think that.

But it's so ridiculously entertaining.

I uh, agree with both of you.

It's pretty funny to me as well, but all the same, maybe we should try to ignore it as the nonsense it is.

Shrug.

I don't care if you think it's funny, by all means laugh, make fun of him, have yourself a grand wine and cheese. But around here there seems to be mostly complaining about him, where there's no right to complain since this is a fire the complainers are stoking themselves. And don't act so surprised that he's going to think himself one of the greatest Trek stories around. If I came into a thread and discovered that most discussion had turned to me and my ramblings, I would rightfully think the same thing.

Also we seem to be setting up for a Great Trek 50th, with the Movie in 2016 in July and a New TV Series Possibly...

...and a New TV Series Possibly...

I've seen no credible rumor about a new TV series.

Aren't we just a couple of days away from the expiration of the supposed non-compete agreement between Paramount and CBS? They said January 15th. So we should have an announcement anytime.

Of course, those bastards from Bad Robot will unilaterally extend it at 11:59pm. Destroying CBS' plans for a new TV series.

I don't think CBS and Bad Robot and Paramount are in a spat, I think that part Para Mobuis made up...I think he takes LIttle facts he hears and tags on his hate for BR Trek and then it Morphs into what it is on his site...

"As a life-long Star Trek fan, I would hope to have Star Trek at The CW," Pedowitz told press at the TCA winter press tour. "[But] I have heard no discussion about it going out as a TV series at all."

I don't see how that can be misconstrued as a rumor for a new TV series.

from what we have now...is the fact that the Movie is being made...IF CW gets a TV Series I am betting it will be in the JJ Verse would be surprised if they tried to go back to Post TNG...but I think the Non Compete thing is a thing Para Mobius made up to connect unrelated rumors or small tidbits of facts he has heard with his hate for BR Trek and what he thinks Pure Trek is...
