That's great. I still like Terry's answer. That's great. But installing a computer or some wiring from the old ship does not a 'refit' make.

Cool. You can like it all you want. I'm not stopping you from having an opinion about it. But like @Spike730 said, Matalas was just giving his opinion too and wasn't really the right person to have been given that question to answer. Not to mention that the info on the plaque pretty much invalidates his answer anyway.
I wouldn't go that far.I like him too. I think he's awesome. Way better than Chabon.
Wonder if it was named Sagan and then rechristened Stargazer to honor Picard?Seven's dialogue in conversation with Picard describes this Stargazer as being close to a class prototype.
The plaque describes it as "Sagan-class". Mr. Matalas describes it yet another way.

Hmmm...probably not while he is still alive, I don't think. If they wanted to honor Picard, they would have named the ship the USS Jean-Luc Picard.

I guess not. Would be weird though, at least in Trek. Why not? Is there a rule stating that someone needs to be dead before a ship is named after them?
I’ll probably get a ban for saying this but then you‘re a moron.
Aside: the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush was commissioned in 2009 while her namesake was still alive, and there are other examples in the Navy as well - but it is relatively rare.
