Let's go! After a two-year (gasp) wait, it's time to jump back into the crazy, prequel-ish era of SNW, resolving a cliffhanger and diving further into the unknown!

The Farragut! The D7! The armories! The surprising amount of old phones aboard Starfleet's flagship! Lots of tech to discover and try to shoehorn into the rapidly-diminishing gap between SNW and TOS, for those nerds among us who will stay up nights making it make sense - while enjoying what is certain to be more fun Trek for all. What are you looking forward to most, tech-wise?

So apparently someone here read something where it was stated or implied that we will see DSC season 1 starships with new round nacelles (perhaps in the 'What is Starfleet?' episode.) I'm still quite dubious that this is the case, but in two months S3 will be over and we'll know definitively. I personally would rather see new ships, but as long as the old ones are in the background, it's probably ok.

After seeing what looks like a three-armed bartender in the OP's teaser trailer, my burning question is: are we going to see the automatic bridge defense system?

They will apparently have holodecks, and if there are differences to the rec room is unclear

Indeed. Which begs the question as to what "enhancement" the Bynars really did. Heck, even Janeway told Naomi that she used to have holodeck adventures with Flotter and Treevis as a child, so it seems more likely at this point that Riker simply never spent time in any holodeck before "Encounter at Farpoint".

I wonder if we'll see the enormous mess hall at all this year. We did see it briefly in the first two seasons, as a set that leveraged the studio's virtual wall (the same space is used as the engineering set and starbase conference room, among others). We got that bar in season two however that seems to have taken the role of the mess hall for whenever people need to eat and talk (or have big fat Amy Winehouse musical numbers).

Re: Nacelles, SNW has been pretty consistent with their own rounded look in their ships so far, so kitbashing older designs with newer nacelles would be on-point and cheaper than building new CG models.

Yep, if they are for random generic background ships, it's fine. But throwing round nacelles onto a ship like the Cardenas class just makes it a ship that looks like it would fit right in with the FC fleet, just with round nacelles. I'm hoping that we will get newer designs for hero ships that will be leaning more towards the TOS aesthetic.

Indeed. While the Farragut is already the SNW version of the Miranda-class, I'd like to see more stuff akin to the FJ designs.

Also the Kelcie Mae. I think we're due a closer look at that Uber ship. :)

I would like to see some transition ships. Like some with the older square-like nacelles and some with the cylinder nacelles. This was something missed in the TMP era films. We never got to see an older ship in that era that still had the TOS nacelles. So maybe we can see some pre-war ships as well as post-war ships (assuming the fleet is shifting more towards the Constitution style nacelles in the 60s while the 70s era ships will get the TMP style nacelles like we see on so many ships even in the 24th century)

Graph-unit like Linear warp nacelles being a Section 31 idea perhaps.

I wonder if Reliant had a similar warp signature as a D-7.

We saw fan designs of that hull looking like a Romulan Bird of Prey, after all.

so it seems more likely at this point that Riker simply never spent time in any holodeck before "Encounter at Farpoint".
Or that (as in my mind) most holodecks were only holography up to a certain date. And then at some point they jumped in quality by seamlessly using holography and replication.

To us the viewer it might look about the same, but one would possibly feel much more real to actually experience it.

I’m just waiting for the Borg and the Ferengi to show up in SNW. I’d add Q as well, but we’re already getting him.

And here I thought ENT was trying to be TNG jr.
