Spoilers ST Strange New Worlds - Starships and Technology Season Three Discussion

STO choosing to name a Nova class variant the Equinox class was certainly a choice.
Yup, a terrible example of we-think-we're-clever worldbuilding or we-ran-out-of-nostalgia-trademarks worldbuilding indeed. And the possible explanation of the Equinox incident being classified by Starfleet Command out of embarrassment just doesn't work when almost no information in STO is ever hidden from the player character because the game runs itself on marketing with homages / references / nostalgia.

Unfortunately they can't be isolinear chips (even on the Enterprise-B), because starships didn't convert from duotronics to isolinear chips until the 24th century. Not that I think anybody producing SNW is going to care about that.

From "Relics:"

SCOTTY: What have you done with the duotronic enhancers?
LAFORGE: Those were replaced with isolinear chips about forty years ago. It's a lot more efficient now.
Well no, that just says Duotonic enhancers were replaced.

Well no, that just says Duotonic enhancers were replaced.

From The Star Trek Chronology:

2329: Isolinear optical chip technology replaces duotronic enhancer systems aboard Starfleet vessels. Duotronic technology had originally been developed by Dr. Richard Daystrom in 2243.

"Relics" (TNG). Geordi said that duotronic enhancers had been replaced about 40 years prior to the episode (2369).

I interpreted the line to say that isolinear chip tech was new as of 2329. If you are more privy to what 'doutronic enhancers' actually are, please let me know. Otherwise this is just more TNG tech shoehorned into a show supposedly taking place before TOS.

Duotronics had 86 years as the defacto Computer Tech in StarFleet Computer Systems.

Not bad.

3.22 × 10^26 Watts is what was needed to open that StarGate / Portal thingy that the Vezda Life Form used.

Each Phaser Beam was Ball Park close to ½ the Output of Earth's Sun.

2x 23rd Century StarFleet StarShip Phaser Beams in perfect Synchronicity can Generate that kind of power

Jeebus, the power creep introduced into SNW.

For Reference:
The luminosity of the Sun is about 3.86 x 10 ^26 watts. This is the total power radiated out into space by the Sun.

Also, the latency for Synchronized Flying via Vulcan Mind Meld / Telepathic Link is superior than Voice over COMM's links.
I guess this explains why they went back from Phaser Arrays to Phaser Banks in PIC now, lol.

This makes Curtis Saxton's numbers look quaint by comparison.

Space lanes are overdue… I’d like to think the Burn either only happened there—or outside.

It would explain Romulans on Earth’s doorstep.

I would like to think you “engaged” with them-street trolley style at TOS warp factor one—a bit past lightspeed.

That actually makes a bit of sense…MOND needs low acceleration environments—so maybe there is a warp equivalent somehow…I think an RPG had a “void” drive…

Yeah it's the only way to solve various issues in travel times throughout TNG and DS9. I once ran the math on where Bajor is, and assuming both Regulus and Epsilon Ceti are above the plane of the Star Trek Star Charts map, it's 281.3 to 300.6 lightyears from Risa, or about 1 Year, 115 Days, 10 Hours at Warp 5 from DS9 to Risa... even at the Defiant's top speed of Warp 9.6 (which O'Brien doesn't figure out how to get above Warp 8 until after First Contact in S6 E25 "The Sound of Her Voice") it would have taken months for it to reach the Typhon Expanse, and then months again to go from the Typhon Expanse to Earth.

Lots of Beta Canon works have used "subspace eddies/currents" to explain this for a while now, often also implying they shift and move and aren't consistent (which would work great to explain some of Star Trek's geopolitics). They really need to officially canonize that at this point.
