Spoilers ST Picard - Starships and Technology Season Two Discussion

You can like it all you want. I'm not stopping you from having an opinion about it. But like @Spike730 said, Matalas was just giving his opinion too and wasn't really the right person to have been given that question to answer. Not to mention that the info on the plaque pretty much invalidates his answer anyway.

Cool.

I like Terry anyway. Didn't think I would.

Seven's dialogue in conversation with Picard describes this Stargazer as being close to a class prototype.
The plaque describes it as "Sagan-class". Mr. Matalas describes it yet another way.

Wonder if it was named Sagan and then rechristened Stargazer to honor Picard?

I mentioned this in another thread, but the Academy display for the original USS Stargazer has display text suggesting that it was placed in the fleet museum after the events of "The Battle," making it rather unlikely (IMO) that the new Stargazer has any of its parts and is not a refit. Might be wrong of course, but I'm going by an available resource. :D

Unfortunately I think we're gonna have to wait for an official publication on that. Out of all the new ships, the only one I know the length of is the Gagarin, at 492.2 metres.

Eaglemoss seems to be the stewards of things like dimensions these days, and I'm sure they'll publish this with their inevitable release of this and all those STO ships we also see. I'm sure they've been salivating at it for a couple years now!

Aside: the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush was commissioned in 2009 while her namesake was still alive, and there are other examples in the Navy as well - but it is relatively rare. Lots of dead naval aviators or politicians to choose from: my favorite is the "USS The Sullivans", which was named for five brothers who all died serving aboard the same ship, resulting in a Navy policy to avoid putting everyone in the same family on the same ship when possible (though the brothers had requested it).

Eaglemoss already released a few STO ships a while back, including the Gagarin! :D

Hopefully they'll do another with the more updated look.

I’ll probably get a ban for saying this but then you‘re a moron.

I missed this post initially on Friday due to having to deal with RL stuff. I'm willing to let it off with a friendly instead of a flaming warning since the thread has otherwise been pretty civil.

Other navies are also available! See also – the UK's current flagship is the HMS Queen Elizabeth, and she's borderline immortal very much still alive.
