Spoiler time.

Don't call it a comeback
I been here for years
Rockin my peers and puttin suckas in fear
Makin the tears rain down like a MON-soon
Listen to the bass go BOOM
Explosion, overpowerin
Over the competition, I'm towerin
Wreckin shop, when I drop these lyrics that'll make you call the cops
Don't you dare stare, you betta move
Don't ever compare
Me to the rest that'll all get sliced and diced
Competition's payin the price

Damn. Haters gonna hate, but I love this show. I mean, COME ON! The last episode with them actually controlling Destiny like a proper spaceship? That felt like Star Trek. Yes, I know this show isnt Trek yet it borrowed heavily from that DS9 ep with the alternate Defiant, but fuck it. It felt new and fresh and awesome. I am really going to miss this show now on par with Firefly, because while SGU had a rocky start this past season (save for Cloverdale) was awesome. It told honest to god science fiction stories as well as some good old fashioned drama.

This isn't Stargate 90210, a show aimed at that audience wouldnt do stories that casually involve bodyswapping, consciousness downloading and alternate realities, not to mention the fact their on a freaking spaceship, across the universe. Knock it for looking like BSG yeah, but bitching about how it is BSG is bullshit. BSG never explored the sci fi aspects of itself, and while that was good for BSG, its not for SGU and that is where this show has set itself apart from everything else on TV today.

It's not drama masquerading as sci fi (the thought of which is rediculous), it's sci fi concepts and situations creating drama. Just because they have younger actors doesnt mean its aimed at a teenage audience. Sure, they made a misstep early on with the needless sex scene in a closet, but honestly the themes dealt with in this show are at the same level of "adultness" as Deep Space Nine, the only exception being SGU embraces the darkness on a visual sense as well as thematic, whereas Deep Space Nine was forever Star Trek and had to keep the well lit sets and decorum otherwise the studio would have thrown a hissy fit.

I'm rambling, yes, but all I can see in this thread (fuck, this forum) is people bitching and moaning about a show they already killed because the creators wanted to try something different.

After eating Pizza every day for 10 years solid, a salad sounds mighty nice. And although it might not taste great at first, it's better for you.

The problem was never with the idea of doing something new with Stargate, it was with the execution, which sucked up until the middle of season 2. The pointless love polygon of Eli-Chloe-Scott established early on really didn't help, nor did the rather predictable Air, Part 3 (aside from the religious crap that never really gets mentioned again), where it was fairly obvious early on that they were gonna pull a race against the clock to end the episode. Then you had the constant anti-intellectual bent of the first half of the season, where Rush is consistently portrayed as a bad guy because he uses logic and is actually competent, unlike Col. Young, who gets to be in the right all the time despite his incompetence. The slow pacing also pretty much killed the show, because it felt like nothing was happening, even when people died, since the next episode would just pick up with them flying through space like nothing ever happened (with some exceptions). And don't get me started on the writing for the women in this show...

All in all, the poor writing sank SGU like a nuclear Shakval detonating under a carrier battle group. No matter what the actors and directors tried to do, they couldn't deal with the massive damage left by terrible writing that pisses off anyone who focuses on story.

As for the dark aesthetic, I think it's a fairly bad idea to do it to such an extreme that one has to play with the video settings to get a decent looking picture where you can see stuff and have a little color tossed in.

You notice how everyone's quarters was dark and dingy? They have been to several different planets, yet no one tries to use something to dress up their room. It would have made a little contrast to make a character's room different from the hallways and other dreary rooms.

That city intrigues me, where did it come from, and why does it use English writing. Kand-E-Mart, heh.

It's probably either another part of Novus, or another colony they set up or something.

But they didn't start colonizing other planets or looking for alternative planets until around 30 years ago, per the last two eps we just saw. Also, they mentioned in Epilogue that Novus's Stargate was burried in lava decades ago, so they couldn't have gated back to Novus. So it is another world they are gating to, with a city that is rather industrialized and speaks English, which raises a lot of questions.

Agreed. A whole season of flying blindly, trapped in a dingy tin can, got tiresome.

It was especially laughable that they were fighting for control of a ship none of them could actually control. It would've made much more sense if the power struggles started once the bridge became general knowledge, not back when they had very limited control over the ship's systems.

Novus was prospering for about 2000 years, it isn't hard to imagine that people would want to go and settle on other worlds. Also Brent they said that they were looking for places to relocate 30 years ago, not that they first started to colonize 30 years ago.

Also, I have a feeling that there is something more to these drones.

It's entirely plausible that the planet in the promos is the planet they started traveling towards in the last episode.... the people of Novus became advanced enough to build starships, it's conceivable that they're advanced enough to build fully-functional towns in short order.

I guess we will find out on Monday, but I don't buy its a colony of Novus. Also remember, the Stargate was only in range of 4 planets they said. Plus, their ships were non-FTL, sublight only, would have taken forever to get to another solar system.

You can "connect the dots" with these Alpha gates to reach planets outside of the range of your starting gate.

This was done in 1x15 "Lost".

I'm just curious and not sure how to phrase this properly but is there any indication so far that what I revealed about the finale is actually factual? As I stated before I don't watch the show or follow the news. I'll take full flak for what I revealed if it turns out to be wrong (after all I did hear it thrice removed). I've actually tried watching episodes and can't get into it at all.

Yes. It looks like it will be the case, or at least the set up for it to happen is there, and the premise for the finale point toward it. As far as cliffhangers go, I don't think we really could have hoped for a better one to be honest. Imagine if the season 1 cliffhanger had been the finale?!

It's not unreasonable to think that it's a colony. I'm sure that they set up some sort of Alpha site just in case something happened to Novus. They are SGC personnel afterall, and they love their alpha sites...
