My point, though, is that it's extremely rare for an episode to be completely devoid of something to like.

I'm someone who defends Shades of Gray.

I just have a very visceral hatred of Profit and Lace. The biggest part I hate is that they physically change Quark, to the point of being hormonal (because of course being female means you cry and stuff) then at the end I guess gave him a mastectomy? I think if he was just dressing up I'd feel a lot less squeamish of the episode. Then it devolves into just stereotypes of female behaviour.

Bring Pel back, that's the episode it should have been.

And I'm a third. Working under unbelievable constraints, they produced a serviceable episode.

If they wanted to bring female equality to Ferenginar, they could have made it less ridiculous by adding in one line to "Ferengi Love Songs". Just have Brunt say that females all over the planet have been growing increasingly discontented with their station in life, and their society is at a tipping point. And just like that, it goes from one woman magically waving her magic wand and changing a whole planet, with Ishka giving the final push of a powerful existing movement.
