Spider-Man: Homecoming' anticipation thread

It says he's playing "Peter Parker's nemesis/enemy in high school," which probably means Flash Thompson, who is a pretty major character.

I sort of assumed it would be Flash too but the report didn't name him, which makes me wonder if they're creating a new nemesis for Peter.

A newly created school enemy would be good. Even if they used him in new ways, Flash has baggage.

Or maybe the report was just written by a reporter who isn't as comics-savvy as we are and didn't recognize the name Flash Thompson as being noteworthy. It's important to remember that what we read in the press is filtered through reporters who have their own biases, preconceptions, and gaps in their knowledge. It doesn't come firsthand from the source, unless it's a direct quote (and even then it can be taken out of context or edited misleadingly).

Seriously, do you ever lighten up? Is the announcement of a little known actor in an unknown part really this important to you?

I made a passing observation that was meant to be helpful, not argumentative. It seems to be more of an issue to you than it is to me. But I have more important things to do, like finishing up a new installment in a series of comedy stories I've been writing for a few years. Which may address your first question.

Well, I genuinely and sincerely apologise if I came across as aggressive. But at the end of the day, we're discussing a minor and as yet unknown role in a superhero film. I take your point that it could be Flash and that the journalist could by lazy or sloppy. But the post doesn't really need the analysis reserved for discussing Brexit or war with Iran. My basic point is nobody is going to get over excited about this news, one way or the other.

Christopher may over-analyze on occasion, but I actually like that about him. He often makes me consider points that I hadn't previously. And I'm sure it's a handy talent for a writer to have. And he is correct about what he says about skepticism. Question everything.

Now we just need the hulk
