Spaceballs (1987).

Cool movie. Definitely one of the 'lesser' Mel Brooks movies, coming out at a point when he was past his prime (his best stuff was in the 60s/70s). Still, I found it more memorable than any of the old Star Wars movies, which were all forgettable to me (not that I think they're bad or anything, they just didn't do much for me).

The movie may be nowhere near the quality level of the brilliant "Producers", "History of the World Part One", "Young Frankenstein", "Blazing Saddles", or even "Silent Movie", but it has its moments. I still think Pizza the Hutt is one of the greatest visual gags ever. This is one of the last decent Brooks movies. I think he started losing his edge a bit after this one, but the Robin Hood one was all right too.

Anyone ever watch the cartoon they made a year or so ago? All I heard about it was they had way too many boob jokes in it.

All I heard about it was the fact that it sucked major ass.

I never thought it possible for a TV show to go from suck to blow in its first few seconds.

^ The cartoon was terrible, and this is someone who believes Spaceballs: The Movie is pure comedy gold!

Care to stack it up against Epic Movie?

Oh man. Spaceballs would obliterate Epic Movie.

Yeah, this is a good point. Whatever the movie's flaws are, it's still worlds better than what passes for a parody movie these days. It may pale in comparison to "Airplane!" or the earlier Mel Brooks movies, but it's far from one of the worst movies of its kind after all the awful ones we've got in recent years. We were really spoiled in the 80s if "Spaceballs" was the worst parody movie around back then. It is a masterpiece compared to those 'Movie' movies.

How many Assholes are on this board? :p

Yeah, I still enjoy Spaceballs. It is one of those movies I just have to watch whenever I see it on. But Blazing Saddles is still my favorite Mel Brooks movie.

There was a rumour before the show going around he would make Spaceballs 3: The Search for Spaceballs 2. I think that is an awesome idea!

Spaceballs is better yes, but one bad movie being better than another bad movie doesn't automatically make it good.

Spaceballs just doesn't do it for me.Loved Mel Brook's earlier movies, but his later stuff isn't up to snuff IMO

Well, I love the movie. Especially the obscure jokes that by rights no one should get, yet they chose to throw them in anyway.

"Prepare ship for metamorphosis!"
"Ready, Kafka?"

Having the actual actor from Alien for the diner scene always makes me smile.

"Oh no, not again"

Epic Movie? Never mention this movie in the same breath as those pieces of worthless Friedberg and Seltzer garbage.
