I liked how they included that at the end of the movie...but why couldn't they of use Shatner's voice over for that? In my eyes that would count as him "being" in the movie and they are his lines dammit !!! I really would of loved that........... (insert crying emoticon)

Any thoughts? Comments?

Because Nimoy and Spock Prime were the connective tissue for the audience to TOS and all that came before. It was appropriate that he do it. Having only Shatner's voice would've been distracting, tacked on, and stunty. It wouldn't have fit into the cohesive tone of the film.

Now had Shatner appeared, then maybe. He wasn't. So the duty went to Nimoy/Spock Prime.

I understand why they had Nimoy do it...and I'm glad he did...but I just have this spot in my heart for Shatner/Kirk I'm looking for it to be filled -- maybe a liquid lunch would help with that today LOL LOL.

I still woulda of liked to hear him say it -- even if it's stunty -- not so sure about distracting.....it was at the end after all :) ...for me...it just woulda been icing on the cake...or should I say cakes?

The casual movie-goer might not have known William Shatner's voice (doubtful, but still possible since some people probably haven't watched ST ever). So they probably wanted to go with a voice that would be easily recognized.

Good Point...

But.......with all the other "easter eggs" why coudn't this be one too?

Nimoy was the perfect choice. He's aware of the line, and knew what was to come for the Enterprise crew.

More 'lack of Shatner' whining in this topic? Get over it guys.

Well said

No, Pine's version of the narration can CLOSE the (fingers crossed) third movie. Once he fully deserves it.

Assuming Abrams only has a trilogy of movies in mind, which is likely.

one thing I can actully agree, Nimoy does it best, though they should have pulled the track from the end of Star Trek II, Nimoy was easier to understand.

True, but those passed over their heads without them realizing it was anything. Having a new voice randomly pop up is different.

How can "Nimoy be the best"?

The voiceover has ALWAYS been for the Captain of the Enterprise.

Even when Spock originally did it, HE had died AS the ship's Captain.

His doing it as the intro to the next movie? An echo of the previous. The Enterprise, technically, still hadn't been given a new Captain (and as we now know, wasn't going to).

Nah. Pine is Kirk, and it's Kirk's ship.

Shatner, Stewart, Nimoy, Bakula. It's always the Captain's.

Pine should do it.

Great I'm glad you're all agreeing and discussing...

But NOBODY agrees with poor ole' Cakes over here.....it might not be rational that I'd want Shat to do it...but it just would of made me very happy.

All I was saying was that, of the people who have done that narration (Kirk, Spock, and Picard), Nimoy's sounds the best. I wasn't even thinking of their role in the movie or the character's rank.

Shatner's character died in a movie that wrapped 15 years ago.

He's dead. Deal with it.
