Space -- The Final Frontier Exit Lines

Oh, for Chrissakes. Shatner wasn't even in the movie. It's like saying, "Duhhh, why didn't Patrick Stewart do the voice over?"

Senior Spock/Nimoy was perfect, although Pine would have made sense, too.

Great I'm glad you're all agreeing and discussing...

But NOBODY agrees with poor ole' Cakes over here......
Maybe that means you're wrong. :p

That's impossible though...because I haven't been wrong yet...EVER...why would this be the first time???

I liked how they included that at the end of the movie...but why couldn't they of use Shatner's voice over for that? I

Shatner's character died in a movie that wrapped 15 years ago.

He's dead. Deal with it.

Oh he did....why no spoiler alert there? But seriously I just found that out a few months ago...and my wants and desires may not be rational but feelings are feelings and I can't just turn them off like you men can!
I also just found out yesterday they killed off Worf & Data....WTF man!

.

Because duhhh I don't give a shit about Picard -- But in a way he is in the movie...the Kirk connection...it would of been one of those easter egg thingamajigs...or a nod to the original or a nod to the old fans...

Lord knows this JJ person put a lot of eggs in there from Cloverfield and Felicity...who the hell cares about that! ! !

They killed Worf?

SPOILert

Well, in the graphic novel Star Trek Countdown, "General Worf" is in command of the Klingon fleet when Nero starts attacking the Klingon system. He boards the Narada to confront Nero but is stabbed through the back with one of these Doctor Octopus tentacles. It's not really revealed whether or not Worf died, but Picard and Data negotiate with Nero to beam Worf's body to the Enterprise's sickbay.

Wow. Your reasoning is as sharp as a rusty Dak'tagh. Mm-hmm. And 1 + 1 = 17 and the moon is made of green cheese. I getcha.

Any thoughts? Comments?

They should've had Pine do it.

It'd of made a lot more sense.

Space. The final frontier...

Does anyone else miss Shatners intonation of these classic lines? When Nimoy first recited them at the end of TWOK it was apropos. Why did they rely on Nimoys recitation in the other films? Since I'm sure Paramount owns Shatners recorded voice, it could have been played at the end of the new film. Or, since Pine is the new face of the Enterprise, maybe he should have been given the responsibility to sign the movie off.

Any thoughts?

Re: Space. The final frontier...

I really wished Pine said this in the new movie...I felt using Nimoy detracted from the set up of the new universe here.

Re: Space. The final frontier...

I liked Nimoy's sign off. It was the final hand-off from the old universe to the new.

What I'd really like is Pine doing the voice-over to start the next installment.

Re: Space. The final frontier...

I liked that Nimoy said it. It's like the old guard sending this new crew on its way since most likely this is the last time we'll see/hear anything from the original cast.

I can buy these answers. But are we agreed that Pine needs to utter these words in the next film?

I suppose so. Although, besides TWOK, it was never said during any of the other films.

Yeah, and I kinda missed it.:(

Re: Space. The final frontier...

Firstly, i wasnt expecting the Nimoy/Enterprise voiceover at the end, that was a complete surprise. And i loved it. :techman:

Having Nimoy at the end of TWOK was understandable, it was Nimoy giving his character and Trek a send off. It worked, having Nimoy do this was the complete opposite, in that it was kind of like him welcoming his character and Trek back by honouring it with a voice over. At least thats the jist i got.

It was a nice touch, using Nimoy to pass the torch, but to Have Pine do it wouldve made more sense, even though his quick promotion didnt.

I'm sure someone said something like that when "Generations" was in cinema's

The next movie will hopefully be entirely about the new cast. It's like "First Contact"

Re: Space. The final frontier...

Shatner wasn't in the movie. Using his voice-over would've defeated the purpose of trying to do an all-new cast. I felt Nimoy's voice-over was very appropriate (a passing of the torch), but I really do feel that the next time we hear it, it should be Chris Pine.

Re: Space. The final frontier...

MORE Shatner wanking?

Seriously, get over it.

Not really. Shatner is the voice of Star Trek. Was for 5 years. (compared to Nimoys two readings). I just think that the movie could have used Shatners voice over at the end or better yet, Pine could have done it. Am I OK with Nimoy "passing the torch"? Yeah. Do I miss the classic reading of these lines? Yeah I do. I agree that Shat's voice could have been confusing to some since he wasn't (and shouldn't have been) in the movie. But it still could have been seen as a "torch passing" just maybe not as connected as Nimoys reading was.
