Space Battleship Yamato

When this fist aired in the late '70s, I was thrilled that there was a sci-fi show with a storyline that went more than 1 episode. After repeated reruns of TOS Trek and Space:1999, it was great that this show has a continuing story that you had to follow along with story arcs and characters that came in/out throughout. All the sci-fi afterwards was a bit of a disappointment to me until DS9 came along.
Also, I found it a personal challenge to spot the "child-safe" editing. At the age of 10, I KNEW that the "robot tanks" were manned, that Sgt. Knox gave his life for the crew and that General Lysis (sp?) blew himself up in an act of seppuku. As a big foreign film watcher, I'd love a really well-done english subtitled dvd of series 1. The story really is epic in it's scope for a show of it's era.

There's a pretty blatant content edit in the "Beeland" episode that aired recently. Nova (Yuki) is wearing a dress that the male crewmembers are going gaga over, and IQ-9 (Analyzer) comes into frame next to her. In the dub, he just says, "Hello, cutie. Hi, cutie." But then we abruptly cut to Nova running from the room in tears. I'm guessing that in the original version, he pulled her skirt up.

Although they didn't cut the later bit where, after a shuttle crash, IQ-9 is lying atop Nova with his head between her legs and refuses to get up, saying "I like it here."

yeah there is a lot of tounge and cheeck humour in the series. all so why is nova the only girl on the ship? half the crew of kirk's enterprise was women I mean really what was up with that?

and what was up with deslock's skin colour change. one moment he was like us and then he goes and changes into a blue skin. it's damn shame that sy fy wont finish running the series. now I am all nastalgic.

I, too, am curious about that. We'll likely be able to find horribly translated versions on eBay (like the "Otoko-tachi no Yamato" WWII movie from 2005). I'm also curious about an international release of Yamato: Resurrection, the last animated movie by Nishizaki. Netflix has a reference to it, but no info on its release. StarBlazers.com doesn't seem to have any news on a western release either, and they seem to be the purveyors of all things Yamato for the English language. I suspect it will be a while - couple more years at least.

i remember reading somewhere that the Space Battleship Yamato live action movie was being released in France soon. once its release hopefully we'll get a english sub, maybe not an official one...but its better than nothing.

Amazon didn't have a page for it the last time I checked, and that's generally not a great sign.

I wish someone would put up the live action movie on youtube all ready.

The Bluray will be released tomorrow in Japan.

thats great when will it be here in the united states. I can't wait.

:drool::drool::drool: till then I'll just keep watching the trailer on youtube.

Probably never ( at least legally, or in the immediate future.) Why? There's been an ongoing effert to do a U.S. "StarBlazers" film project, so the U.S. rights are in force - meaning they don't want tjhe U.S. audience in general to see the Japanese made version.

Seriously????

Because there is a local movie theater that might show it, if we could get it.

is the japanese one region 1? and is there some where I can buy it online? 138 minutes is two and half hours right if so thats awesome. does that site do a conversion for american dollars?

Have also been waiting for this to be released, blu-ray.com list the French release date as August 2nd but don't list English subtitles as being included.

http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Space-Battleship-Yamato-Blu-ray/23690/

Its being confirmed for a English blu-ray release here for Australia but no date unfortunately.

http://www.asianblurayguide.com/detail/3250/space_battleship_yamato_japan_australia/

Hopefully an English subbed European release date is announced soon.

I read it will indeed be released over here in August but why does the DVD/Blu-Ray cover say "A movie by Alexandre Aja"?
