So what was the deal with Robert Beltran?

I remember reading a comment Mulgrew made where she liked her time working on Voyager and "Out of a cast of 9, I've made 3 great friends."

I haven't really looked but apart from Wang, was there anyone else Mulgrew and/or the other cast didn't get along with?

Bob Picardo and Tim Russ are on that short list.

In fact, I believe that Bob Picardo is probably the closest to her.

Mulgrew did not like Jeri Ryan and according to Wang and others, made Jeri's life miserable for the time she was on the show. Most egregious was her sniffing that costumes are part of the job & actors shouldn't complain when Jeri passed out because the Borg suit was cutting flow through her carotid artery.

Kate, meanwhile, is on record for whinging about the hair and the bras for years.

She said at a con last year that she was wrong about how she treated Jeri.

Oh wow. I had no idea. That seems interesting, considering the on-screen relationship between Janeway and Seven.

Proof they're both pros.

I think it's pretty sad that everyone else on the cast got along and for 7 years, Mulgrew only made 3 friends. Too even say that pubilcally is like spitting in the others faces. Besides production reasons, is there any surprise now why there won't be a Voyager movie?

I know that Mulgrew said when Voyager ended, she was standing on the Bridge set as they were tearing it down and she got teary, and Picardo came up and they hugged each other. I think she said it was "devastating", to see them just sort of quickly and methodically tear the sets down.

I don't think she ever meant to imply that she only made three friends throughout the run. She tends to compliment whatever people are sitting with/next to her at the time.

Yes, she's repeated that story a few times at a few cons. ;)

She's also been quoted numerous times as saying that she believes friendships are forged with very strong bonds and that most of us, if we were to really admit it ourselves, only have a handful of very close friends. Outside of that, we have some very close acquaintances, but, to call someone a true friend, means you're giving them a certain level of love that isn't something that you should give carelessly or easily.

Of course, we all know she's a melodramatic hound, but I love her, and, to an extent, I think she's right.

She often asks people who interview her, "Who do you love? Who do you really, truly love?" When they ask her what question she would ask so-and-so. When they ask her why, she says, "Because the answer to that shows the character of the person."

:sigh:

I love coffee. I wonder what that says about me?

Yes, Mulgrew is famous for talking out of both sides of her mouth and her diva complex.

It says that Janeway's imprinted on you more than you've realized ;)

Hrm... yeah, you're probably right.

I like the term melodramatic ham. I think it's more fitting. :techman:

It means Starbucks & Dunkin' Donuts stock is secure.

^ I don't drink either. I don't contribute to the corporate coffee culture. Well, that and their coffee sucks donkey balls.

That being said, my point is Mulgrew has said multiple times in a round about way that she feels people really only have a handful of good friends. So, if asked if she made any good friends on Voyager, when she says three, she's just being honest.

They know who hung out with what people. I don't think anyone should or would be shocked by her answer.

Well, I guess what I was trying to say is that that quote isn't probably accurate since she's said the same when there's 4 or 5 other actors with her. It's just whoever is around at the time. This thread's moving fast, lol!

Also, I suppose you people don't have Caribou Coffee in your neighborhoods? XD Must just be an MN thing.

I actually believe the same thing. Friends you hang out with come and go in your life but if you're lucky you'll have two or three you'll grow old with.

Love my Caribou. Also Dunn Bros. :techman:

I haven't seen any of the negative interviews, nor would I want to. I'd rather naïvely imagine the actors relishing their roles. My brother, who barely knows Voyager, immediately took a liking to Chakotay. He would be disappointed if he knew how seldom he was used.

My principal gripe about Chakotay is not his dearth of screen time, background info, or lack of development. Rather, I'd have preferred him to be a much stronger figure. Riker acted like a true first officer, brimming with confidence and often acting independently--and unlike Chakotay, he hadn't even been a leader/captain!

Chakotay, OTOH, seemed extremely meek (except when talking to Torres), and almost always either looked to Janeway for instructions or immediately agreed to whatever she wanted (except in Scorpion and Equinox). I think he should have been a very strong figure, rather than a mild-mannered copilot who had an almost constant look of slightly bemused amusement.

Don't you think it would be hard to swallow for Beltran to play an almost impotent and extremely meek commander who was supposed to have been a bold and daring Maquis outlaw?
