So what are you reading, now? Part V

Hollow Men, it started off slowly but its suddenly grabbed me now!
That's one I keep seeing in the stores, keep meaning to pick up, and keep getting distracted from by other things.

*sigh*

Maybe this weekend I'll grab it. If the shop still has it in stock.

It's a good read.

I'm currently reading Stephen King- Tommyknockers. I just finished the Dark Tower series for the third time and am planning to pick up Lisey's Story again. He da man! :p

Yesterday I read the old DC comic issue "Uhura's Story" on the comic collection DVD. The poor artist got terribly, terribly confused drawing the two timeframes. On the plus side, said artist's attempt at the TOS Enterprise bridge, when erroneously applied to the USS Excelsior at the very start, is actually the closest the comic ever got to the STIII Excelsior bridge design. On the negative side, the sets, ships and costumes are so randomly switched at the start and end that I didn't realize the flashback had finished until I noticed that it was Saavik that yellow-shirted Kirk was talking to.

The story was fluff - Uhura flies off by her self to save the hapless Kirk, Spock and co, and win the respect of her crewmates. Garry Mitchell wears red.

I think I can guess what the next 20 issues worth of letters' pages are gonna focus on:lol:

Yeah... in his defense, Carmine Infantino was one of the most important and admired comic-book artists of the Silver Age. He co-created the Barry Allen version of the Flash, whose debut is considered the starting point of the Silver Age, and designed his iconic costume. He also introduced the "New Look" Batman design with the yellow oval around the bat-symbol. But for all his accomplishments with original comics characters, he wasn't really cut out for tie-in work, at making his art conform to the appearances of TV actors or set designs or what-have-you. A few years before "Uhura's Story," he was the artist on the comic based on V: The Series, and that had many of the same art problems, though at least Infantino didn't have to worry about confusing different set and costume designs in present and flashback segments.

He is indeed. Dark Tower is an amazing series that I'm guessing everyone here would really enjoy. I think those who haven't read much of King would be really surprised at how epic the series is as well as how many genre's King blends into the series. Everything from Sci-Fi to Fantasy to Horror to Adventure. It's pretty much got it all!

A fan, yay! You da man! :D

Honestly, I love King's books with a vengeance. The Dark Tower is so awesome there are no words to describe it. I got so much out of those books that if I tried to explain it, it would come out horribly cheesy.

King's stories are far more than horror....even the horror-centred stories. My favourites are, of course, the Tower books, Insomnia, Dreamcatcher, Lisey's Story, The Stand and Duma Key.

I started the Dresden Files series last week - I'm on book 3 already - very fun books
I just finished Side Jobs last week. That came after finishing Simon R. Green's latest Nightside book immediately before.

I've taken a slight fiction break, but going away this weekend and bringing "Tales of the Dominion War" along with me -- picked it up last week for $4 on a clearance shelf.

Now, I do have Trek fiction books in my pile (a dirty pile in my room since I have so many things going on now) that I want to read, but it's very difficult to actually read them since I am aware (or have an issue with) certain questionable representations in the franchise.
What kind of "questionable representations" do you refer to, Joel?

Do a search on my earlier posts on this site, and that will answer your question.

I started "Freedom Angst" in ST: Seven Deadly Sins last week. I'm not real far into it but so far it's just been kinda meh. I don't think I'm gonna stick with it. I've just got a ton of other stuff that I'm alot more interested in. So I'll be starting the next story in the collection, "Revenant", while I'm on my break at work this afternoon.

I wasn't even thinking Khan. I was thinking Gary Seven and Roberta Lincoln. Your books hinted that they had other adventures outside of Khan. Thirty years worth if my count is correct. Hell, that could make a book series of it's own. Kind of like their comic book series a while back.

I want to get back to Gary and Roberta and Rain Robinson one of these days. In fact, I briefly considered trying to squeeze them into the new book somehow, but it just felt forced . . . .

I still need to read that comic book series!

(Plus the new KHAN comics, of course.)

You should. I enjoyed it.

I need to read that new Khan comic too, come to think of it.

Read a few stories from The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. If I read those in between other books I might finish eventually. Haha

Now reading Black Magic Sanction by Kim Harrison. After that's finished, then I'll be ready for Pale Demon, which I just purchased for my Kobo E-reader. :)

I bought the 4 Dominion War books from a charity shop (for about 20p or something) a while ago, finally got around to reading them

Those bring back fond memories! Pity that the Picard/Ro scenes don't fit neatly into the current book continuity. They really fleshed out the DS9 episodes, too.

Reading 'Yellow Future: Oriental Style in Hollywood' by Jane Park....for my paper on Asian-Americans in Star Trek due tomorrow.

Good stuff...
