So what are you reading, now? Part V

Just finished a re-read of Open Secrets and will move on to Precipice this evening if my wife lets me relax for two seconds after making a list of stuff for me to do.

I recently finished Paths of Disharmony and now I am reading the New Frontier book Dark Allies. Not sure yet what to read after. I may or may not read a non-Trek book.

I finished Indistinguishable From Magic last week (finally...work has been hell on my reading lately!) and before reading Watching The Clock I am reading The Bridge, David Remmick's wonderful biography of Barack Obama that attempts (rather well) to contrast his presidency (as of mid 2010) with the larger struggle for civil rights.

Next up is Blind Man's Bluff.

Don't feel like reading fiction at the moment, so I'm reading Undisputed - How to Become the World Champion in 1,372 Easy Steps by Chris Jericho and Peter Thomas Fornatale instead.

Finished Burning Dreams. I loved the first two thirds, but then things went downhill. The Pike/snake people plot didn't inspire me and considering the whole book is geared towards it, the incident on the class-J cadet ship wasn't given as much time as I would have liked (although what was there was good). I liked the very end, too.

I'm also halfway through NF: Martyr. Enjoyable.

Finished Q-Strike last night. Moving onto 'Naked Heat' now (the second Richard Castle book that ties into the 'Castle' TV show).

Just started. "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" by Mark Twain. Free book on Kindle- probably free on other readers too.

Twain's own opinion of the book.

Well, my book is written--let it go. But if it were only to write over again there wouldn't be so many things left out. They burn in me; and they keep multiplying; but now they can't ever be said. And besides, they would require a library--and a pen warmed up in hell.
- Mark Twain in a Letter to W. D. Howells, 9/22/1889 (referring to Connecticut Yankee)

Just finished. "The Legend of Ivan" for the second time. Had to find all the clues I missed the first time through. Truth in posting- my son wrote it. It pretty good. An interesting approach to space opera and all the parts hold together very well.

After finishing "Catcher in the Rye" for the second time (which btw is awesome), I just started reading "Nemesis" by Philip Roth. It's basically a book about a polio outbreak in Newark, 1944. Pretty good so far. I really like his style.

Of course, it's not good enough to replace Stephen King as my favourite author, but then again, nothing is. Stephen King books are, as Edward Cullen would say, my personal brand of heroin. :p

Never a dull day in Mid-World!

I finished Mr. Monk Goes to Hawaii a few days ago. I'm now reading Star Trek: The Next Generation - Indistinguishable from Magic.

I finished reading Homecoming just a few minutes ago. I was pleasantly surprised, given the overwhelmingly negative comments about Voyager's post-series fiction around here. Moving on to The Farther Shore next in my quest to get caught up in Trek fiction.

ETA: There are 33.5 weeks left in this year, and I have 37 books to read to get caught up. I gotta step up my reading rate if I'm gonna get this done by the end of the year. I've done 16 so far.

Last night I read the first issue of the current runs of Thor and Hulk. I really enjoyed both comics, and I will be continuing the series in the near future. Although, I'm kind wishing I hadn't found out the identity of the Red Hulk before I decided to read Hulk.

Some random articles from Best of Trek #13. I've just had some very blatant structural failings in the classic movie Enterprise pointed out to me, and I feel somewhat stupid for having missed them. The "Dateline: Starfleet" article, about how the press and news services might react to the events of "The Wrath or Khan" and "The Doomsday Machine", was a very interesting read, too.

In the process of re-reading the last of the current Vanguard books, Precipice.

Also reading Andy McDermott's The Sacred Vault.
