So long, George

Well. George (may I call you George?), if you're really reading this, thanks for everything. Good job! I really love your films. But Greedo didn't even get a shot off, and you did that the first time, and I thought it was just great. I love Star Wars. It changed my life, and for the better. Thanks! And good luck in any future endeavors you undertake. May the Force be with you! :techman:

Scared me, I thought maybe he had passed on!

Interesting "retirement", I'll be curious what his small movies are like.

Yeah, all about George stepping away from SW. Hope he means it.

And I do look forward to Red Tails.

Turn Star Wars over to Dave Filoni, George. Go make more "little" movies.

A thousand times this. Filoni "gets it". George is unfortunately a bit like Roddenberry. Both had great initial ideas, but need other creative people to flesh them out and make them work.

I was afraid at first that this was about George R Martin dying, and then George Lucas dying. Retirement is okay, though.

Jesus H, I thought from the title he'd died!

This doesn't sound like a retirement to me so much as a shift to other projects. I'm interested to see what he comes up with.

He's been promising to go off and make little movies for a while. I'll believe it when I see it. His student films are actually pretty promising (as are his two, pre-Star Wars features). I'd be happy if he made films like that.

He's been doing it more and more regularly, I think, since Revenge of the Sith in 2005. Still hasn't happened. We'll see...

So by my count this is the third time he's done this? After Jedi, after Sith and then now. Did I miss anything?

I'm sorry if he honestly feels that he was personally attacked for the prequels. But I have no sympathy if he feels that way simply because people though the prequels were bad or the changes to the original trilogy were unnecessary.

Who knows, maybe he has some good ideas up his sleeve for these "small" movies. Of course we could interpret this to literally mean that he is going to make a THX 1138 Special Edition.

Basically: Go make small movies, then come back to Star Wars when he gets bored with that? 1980s all over again?

Still: For all the bitching I've done about the man, he was a big influence on my life. Not only was Star Wars (and Star Trek) escapes that I needed in a rough childhood, as I got older I grew to appreciate the man for his creative and business sense, as well as the contribution him and his companies have made to the industry.

As for who to take the regins: Filoni for the serious answer; the man has got the universe nailied.

Or

Katie Lucas for the lulz from the nerd rage and her fighting with people online.

I love George Lucas' work and I always will. If he feels now is the time to throw in the towel then all the more power to him. He'll always have my respect and admiration. I even named my son Lucas in honor of the man. May the force be with you, George. But don't let anyone else make a Star Wars movie without you! Ever!

F*** me, I thought this was gonna be a George Takei obit. I like this career move from GL, and I hope he enjoys it enough to stick with it.
