Except, it's not a new ship. Shaw said he's commanded the Titan for the past five years. As far as the Titan's living arrangements, it's possible that being a new ship, the vessel didn't have fully furnished passenger quarters yet.

As has Kirk the Enterprise before the refit in TMP.Except, it's not a new ship. Shaw said he's commanded the Titan for the past five years.
And it would have taken energy and personnel from the ship to do so just to accommodate two unofficial visitors. Shaw may not have deemed it necessary or warranted. It's the 25th century and the best tech Starfleet has. They could have replicated them beds and furniture. It would have taken seconds.
He actually didn't have to invite them to dinner at all, if that was the case. I don't think there's any argument that Shaw isn't a member of the Picard & Riker Fanclub, but their arrival on the Titan was totally at their own volition, not Starfleet's. They basically barged their way onto the ship. This is the guy that made a point to start eating dinner before they even arrived. He was in his rights, sure, but that doesn't mean he wasn't an asshole, and he was not behaving like an officer and a gentleman.
And yet Riker said the Titan had a new ship smell. So either she's a new ship or a newly-refitted ship, that could still mean that some of the ship's interior could yet to be fully utilized.Except, it's not a new ship. Shaw said he's commanded the Titan for the past five years.
kind of a stretch to normalize this behavior. it clearly was meant to be seen as abnormal. I don't (hope anyway) think he's going to some villain, just the kind of guy who never wipes his butt or takes a shower and expects everyone to treat him with the respect he never gives anyone else, but at the time time, trying to justify him is reaching hard. And it would have taken energy and personnel from the ship to do so just to accommodate two unofficial visitors. Not at all. It's just that Shaw isn't fawning over Picard & Riker and worshipping the very air they breathe. He may come across as rude as a result, but the Titan is his ship, not theirs.kind of a stretch to normalize this behavior.
he should have pissed in the turbolifts and rubbed himself on all the towels. it would have been more subtle. Not at all. It's just that Shaw isn't fawning over Picard & Riker and worshipping the very air they breathe. He may come across as rude as a result, but the Titan is his ship, not theirs.
I mean, that's realistic for real life navies, the XO would have the bridge most of the time unless the captain is actually needed. There is one thing that make me wonder if Shaw even serious with his job. Look at him. He was only come to the bridge when he realized that his ship is out of course. He prefers to spent his time more on the dining table and his bedroom. Eating and sleeping. Rather than oversee his ship operation from the bridge. He's lazy and incompetent.
I'm sure that If Shaw does his job seriously, Seven won't have any chance to trick him. Like in episode 1.
Because he's Starfleet. Same reason they didn't tell the truth to Seven until she confronted them.I wonder why Picard and Riker weren't straight with Shaw right off the bat. Did they take Beverly's "trust no one" warning too literally? I mean, I can see why they wouldn't go to Starfleet Command, but surely it would have been in their best interests to, you know, not yank Shaw's ship right out from under him?
"Too literally?" How is taking this threat too literally? if they tell Shaw, and Shaw is, by his own admission, by the book officer, he would report the course change up the chain of command for their deviation from their course and timeline to return to their original mission.I wonder why Picard and Riker weren't straight with Shaw right off the bat. One comment I saw on this scene elsewhere was that Shaw is basically reacting the way other captains wanted too in the face of pushy admirals or bureaucrats, like Kirk vs. Barris in Trouble with Tribbles. And in those instances the audience would side with Kirk, or the other captain, because the admiral is being pushy and telling the captain of the ship what to do.
I mean, he calls it out specifically that his current mission is not that exciting, and not what Picard and Riker are known for, with action and explosions. So, yeah, I think their reputation precedes them in terms of the more action oriented missions they had had in the past.Or is Shaw genre-savvy and knows that the main characters have arrived with action and danger not far behind?
