Again, for what it had to do and accomplish--LOVED IT.

Heaven help me, it's off to my local IMAX to see it for a tenth time.

As Jeri would say, "Only 10?!?"

:p

Yes, I did.

I went in knowing exactly what would happen (love to read spoilers), and was still shocked by the quality and excitement. I was on the edge of my seat and I knew what was coming next already...

The early scenes on the Kelvin had my wife and I bawling, whereas some of the later dialog had us hysterical...a true rollercoaster of emotion.

I think that a truly good writer would have been able to write a good script that didn't require so many canon changes, and didn't require time travel, and that could have still told the story of Kirk and Spock's meeting in a way that would have kept the attention of non-Trekkies...but I accept that I have no say in that decision because I don't work for JJ or Paramount.

The movie, as written, was well done, and I look forward to lurking this board for all the sequel rumors and spoilers to come.

I think that's great! -- and you know I'd never say that. Hope you have fun, and don't forget to report back.

Found the sweet spot halfway up and in the middle of the auditorium, and it made quite a bit of difference.

Had to displace some folks with my reserved tickets, not buying one person's statement that "no one pays attention to that".

My extra dollar online reservation fee begs to differ, I thought, showing them the tickets.

Tickets plural because my son came too, making it 3 times in IMAX for him and 5 times overall. Glad he still likes to hang out with the old man to that extreme at 16 years of age.

He's the guy who took 9 fellow students/friends to see Star Trek when it was still in its infancy, and now we're kind of there for the final, fading moments.

Great moments they were, too, for myself, him and about 60 other folks in the theater on a Wednesday night.

Lots of good will being built up for the next installment, I guarantee you. Now all the brain trust has to do is live up to that free pass, and it'll be 300 million easy.

:)

That sounds like exactly where we always sat; it's like in the Memorex commercial. Your son sounds like a chip off the old block; glad you all had a great time!

Yes, I enjoyed it a great deal.

It will never take the place of TOS, and I didn't think it was flawless by any means, but it accomplished exactly what I hoped it would accomplish.

I enjoy the concise fashion of this poll; a simple yes or no will do...has anyone done a poll say with a grading scale from A-F...what grade would you give this movie?

There's the grading thread that's stickied at the top of the forum - Excellent, Above Average, Average, Below Average and Poor are your options.

I hold about as much esteem for this film as I did Independence Day. Fun as hell, likeable enough characters, but plagued with plot problems. (For instance, both Will Smith and his wife ending up at Area 51 - Will Smith having crash-landed nearby, his wife just happening to run into the First Lady <!?>, whose ex-husband just happened to be the guy who discovered the alien signal, etc etc).

In the end, I'm sure I'll rent the DVD a couple of times, just like I did with I.D., but my opinion is mixed enough that I can't cast a simple yes or no vote as to whether I like it or not.

Original TOS fanatic - It was a "fun" movie. It was meant to be "fun." No reason to take it seriously as it was an alternate timeline. Liking it or disliking it will not affect my continued enjoyment of the original. Nor will anyone else's opinion of it, actually alter my DVD's of the original.

Agreed...except that this movie (yes I liked it) has made me appreciate my DVD's that much more.

I don't know why but when I finished the movie I felt like running home and watching a TOS or 2 and I would of done it too....if it wasn't 3 a.m by the time I got home...

Can't really say I did like or enjoy the film. It looked good but in my opinion, in the end that's all it had going for it.

The group I went with had a cancellation so we ended up with one too many tickets and gave it away to another person and I can't help but wish I had been that person and saved the $10 it cost me to watch it.

So you didn't even get ten dollars worth of enjoyment from a night out with friends pulling apart a movie you just saw?

Even bad ST movies are worth the cost of entry for their discussion fodder afterwards.

WANT DVD NOW!!!

I adore STXI and I've seen it 18 times. Would have gone more but RL can be a bitch. I want an anotated script too. They did some really lovely writerly stuff.
