SNW Season 1 vs Season 2

Of the two seasons so far, I find I really enjoyed more episodes of season 2 then in season 1.

The above said I found no really bad or unwatchable episodes in either season. Strange new world is the most watchable Star Trek series for me after the original Star Trek series. It really has a wonderful set of episodes; and these first 20 episodes are probably the best Star Trek episodes in general since TOS season 1.

If you'd asked me halfway through the season, I would have said season 1. But the second half was so good, and the musical episode was a big part of it, that I'd say the second season was a little bit better than the first. Both seasons are great though.

I was thinking about this the other day. For me, these 19 episodes are the single strongest run the franchise has ever produced. It's a degree of consistency unheard of in the old 20+ episode shows, and it's doubly impressive a half-century on. To me, that's the bigger story about the two seasons.

IDK, TOS1 and the middle of TNG/DS9 had some pretty strong runs.

"Dagger of The Mind" to "City on the Edge of Forever" is around 20 episodes. I don't think there is a dud in there (OK, maybe Alternative Factor). And more classics (City, Space Seed, Balance of Terror, Arena, Menagerie, Devil In the Dark, This Side of Paradise, A Taste of Armaggedeon, Corbomite Manuever, etc

But I consider TOS1 to be THE best season of Trek. And I believe SNW 1-2 is right there with it. TNG 3-6, DS9 4-6, and PIC3.

Next Tier would be TOS2, DS9 3 & 7, VOY 4-6, ENT 3 & 4, DISCO 1 & 4, PIC 1, LD 2, PRO 1, and TNG 7.

Tier 3: TNG2, DS9 1&2, VOY 1, TOS3, LD 1 & 3, TAS 1.

Tier 4: TAS2, TNG1, VOY 2-3 & 7, ENT 1&2, PIC 2, DISCO 2&3.

Season 2 of Strange New Worlds focused far too much on Spock+Chapel for me, and many of the season's stories could've been told in a more nuanced and interesting way. Season 1 felt more fresh, season 2 feels like baiting fans with the legacy characters. Also with S2 trying out various genres like horror and musical, it doesn't really go for it all the way.
