Snowpiercer (TV series)

I think the stuff with Wilford hitting Alex was from last season, it seemed familiar.
I can't remember a man in the shadows, where was he?

Deep down, we all knew it was going to end this way, in blood. Makes me sad because I grew to like Pike a lot and how he seemed to have grown from the painful relationship between him and Layton. But, as Pike noted, some wounds can't ever heal. And maybe they could've come to some kind of peace, however tentative and fragile, if he hadn't discovered the truth about New Eden. "I hope you find it frozen" is one hell of a parting line and yet it seems entirely appropriate.

However, now I fear his death has not only created a fracture between Layton and Martha (who was already gently been drifting asunder), but also with Till. I hope I'm wrong about the latter although I don't think I was wrong when I feared the same about Josie. And now that head injury that I feared was worse than it initially appeared at the end of the previous episode has definitely gotten a lot worse.

On the plus side, the show has returned to its Tailie roots, however briefly, and we even got to see Miles once more, who was coincidentally hanging out with Josie just at the right time. I can only hope we don't have to wait another season for him to see again. And maybe, just maybe Jinju can return, too?

Another happy note was how Alex was able to bond with Carly and helped her reconcile with her father. Already Roche looks healthier outside of the psyche train.

And, of course, LJ continues to be a fucking freak.

I'm always a sucker for surreal dream sequences that recasts all of the characters in new roles (although there's no ever topping The Leftovers' "International Assassin" even if that wasn't actually a dream), so I was already primed to love this episode. I thoroughly enjoyed Layton's mad-fever journey through the jungle redressing of Snowpiercer in a desperate to save his life...and his sanity. I greatly appreciated that his battle with Pike and near death experience lead to him finally realizing the bitter pill of lying to the crew about New Eden.

The one thing I was disappointed about (and the opening credits already tipped its hand on) was the lack of Melanie in a new role...but that was made up for the surprise appearance of Kandyse McClure as a grown-up Liana the Tail Boss!

And, yes, the renewed hope that Melanie is actually still alive in the real world. That may just save Layton from having to face the consequences for his lying. But perhaps not.

It was refreshing to see a glimpse of the old Audrey, the sane and calming Audrey. Perhaps there's still hope for her, too.

Lastly, I loved Sean Bean decked in the all-white jungle suit. How has he not done a film where he's dressed liked that?

Oops, I forgot this was on last night, so I'm just skipping that last post.

Yeah, they've been doing some great stuff with Pike lately, but after he turned on Layton, and taking his history of going kind of back and forth in regards to his loyalty, this was sadly the only way it was going to end.

I have to admit, it took me a minute the realize that was Miles.

Whatever happened to her? She seemed to just kind of disappear after a while.
Another happy note was how Alex was able to bond with Carly and helped her reconcile with her father. Already Roche looks healthier outside of the psyche train.
Yeah, it was nice to see Alex actually make a friend her own age, and it was very Snowpiercer that they bonded over the fact that Alex tried to kill Wilford.

And, of course, LJ continues to be a fucking freak.
I had totally forgotten about her creepy obsession with her father's eyeball.
I had thought after last week that maybe Audrey was starting to turn on Wilford, but after last week it's pretty clear she hasn't, or at least is still loyal to the man he was before his experience with the suspension drug. It will be interesting to see where they go with her now that she seems more against Layton and his people than Wilford is.

Who's Martha?
I knew I was going to do that at some point.

I meant Ruth. Martha was Alison Wright's character on The Americans, which is where I first fell in love with her.

Whatever happened to her? She seemed to just kind of disappear after a while.
Once her relationship with Bess dissolved, she completely disappeared. I don't think she has so much as been mentioned since (although yesterday's episode did allude to her in a small way).

I absolutely hate episodes like this in shows. This one bored me so much I stopped half way through and haven't been able to go back yet.

It's essentially a holodeck episode.

Damn.

I didn't think they would kill off Asha so soon especially since Archie Panjabi was a cast member. She had a solid story arc but it still feels like it ended abruptly. I'm also not thrilled at the idea of her death being a catalyst for Layton to return to his previous course of the New Eden lie and so soon after he accepted that he taken a bitter pill just last episode.

They're teasing extra hard that Melanie is indeed returning to the point that it would be extremely disappointing if it's not her. But at the same time, I feel like there's going to be some kind of twist to it and I can't possibly think what that twist will be.

I loved seeing Audrey returning to her old ways and helping Bess deal with her pain. For all of Audrey's craziness as of late, I'm intrigued to see their relationship grow.

And speaking of dealing one's pain, I loved the little moment of Roche helping Carly cope with the loss of her mother and to do it in such a joyful yet dad kind of way. For all of the grim and direness of this show, it's refreshing to have little moments like this one.

...and then there's LJ. Losing her shit at the prospect of Melanie returning that she's willing to have a bit of her leg scraped off. Such a damn weird way to get a tissue sample (yeah, yeah, I know why but still!).

I'm sorry it didn't work for but I understand why you didn't connect with it. Like I said in my review, I greatly appreciated how the conceit helped Layton understand the bitter pill he had taken (even if the immediate subsequent episode essentially walked it back).

It's essentially a holodeck episode.
Now there's no need to be derisive like that. I love a good holodeck episode!

Very surprised to see Asha go too especially in such an ironic way. She never seemed to do much on the show though for a talked up cast member.

I have a feeling Melanie will turn out to be marauders. Kind a felt foreshadowed in the dream.

Roche has great taste in tunes.

Seems like crazy LJs skin is to graft to Frankenstein's monster. I assume it's the other doctor but who knows it could be a big surprise come back.

I loved seeing Kandyse too! The whole fever dream reminded me of Casablanca. :)

OMG! I had NO idea that's the same actor!

Yes, Roche does. But it also made me think, "Is he my age?"

I had the same thought that the Mad Scientist is trying to bring back her hubby. But yeah, they love pulling bait and switch on this show.

Finally got caught up with the last couple episodes.
I really enjoyed the coma episode, I always get a kick out of episodes that kind of play with the premise and characters like that. It was interesting to get the logical explanation for Layton's "visions" of New Eden. I have no problem with that kind of stuff in general, but it did feel kind of out of place in this show prior to that.
Asha's death was definitely a surprise.
I'm curious where they are going with Audrey, we had that one scene where she was pissed that Joseph wasn't as willing to move against Layton as she was, but now we have her helping him and Till.
The stuff with Roche and his daughter was nice, Roche has always been one of my favorite characters.
Definitely curious if Melanie is going to be that little car thing.

Well, things definitely took an interesting turn with the return of Melanie.
I was a little shocked Wilford actually got to her like that, but if the track to New Eden really is that dangerous I can understand why she did it.

Melanie truly returned...and it came with a cost, one that I expected but I wasn't sure in what form.

In hindsight, it makes perfect sense. Melanie learned the hard way about the long lie. But not just that, she's always been a scientist first and Wilford knew. Yes, he goaded her to manipulate the situation for his own desires but I don't think Melanie needed much urging. She saw right away the problem with Layton's plan and she decided she couldn't go through that again. Not while the data didn't back it up.

So we're back to war. Friends are now enemies and enemies are now friends. And LJ is fucking LJ.

We're in for one hell of a season finale (we already know there will be a fourth season).

Like you I knew there would be a twist to Melanie returning but wasn't sure what it would be. TBH I think I'm kinda sick of the constant battle for the train and at this stage where are they even getting people to fight.
I really liked this season for the personal moments so I'm a bit disappointed it's war again.
As for LJ she's nuts but deep down I still would.

I'm a little surprised Oz seems so shocked when LJ does crazy shit, you'd think he would have been with long to know that's kinda her thing.

Yeah, I have to admit, at first I was thinking it was hypocritical of her to reveal Layton's lie, after she spent so long lying to everyone herself, but at least in her mind it's not. I think in her mind, her lie was, at least at the time, something she did for the good of the people on Snowpiercer, but she decided Layton's lie was hurting them, and deep down their wellbeing really has been her #1 concern, even if she some of the ways she tried to help in the past were screwed up .
Jennifer Connelly talked with EW.com a little bit about her return and the finale.

Sounds like we may actually see New Eden after all, unless Connelly is referring to something completely different that hasn't been seen on the show yet. It's probably as simple as that but I wouldn't be surprised if the show throws in one more big twist before the season closes.

Her comments also makes me think that perhaps war won't be so long-lasting this time around.

As for why Oz keeps sticking with LJ despite knowing she's crazy, I think she demonstrated that quite clearly when she seduced him before quickly switching to threatening. He's easily manipulatable when it comes to sex. But on the plus side, he still went to Roache when he knew something very bad was about to happen. Just a moment too late.
