Smallville: Series Finale - Week Long - Discusion Thread

I'm on the fence with this. I was looking forward to the Finale until the end of Prophecy, now I fear 90 minutes of melodrama.

Exactly. Instead of giving the fans what they want by having Clark as Superman, fight as Superman, it's going to e be more of the Clark Kent Angst Express. They've done 10 season and 217 episodes about Clark's journey...can't they do one where he's actually Superman?

Here's an interview with Tom Welling. He tells you who's coming back and it sounds like he'd continue with the show if he could. He didn't say that, but he acts like it.

I'm going to avoid spoilers as much as I can. I want to be surprised. I'm just hoping that the Superman mythos as we know it really comes together in the finale. That means Clark as Superman, with Perry and Jimmy at the Daily Planet. I also want to see Darkseid in the flesh.

Yeah, I would've liked to have seen Darkseid 'fleshed' out, and not simply be rendered as a substandard CGI. Someone had tossed out both Tony Todd and Michael Clarke Duncan as contenders to portray him. Either one of these guys would've been good, putting a face to the Big Bad of the Season.

At this point I'm ready for it to end. I want the pain to be over

I'm looking forward to it, but I'm not expecting it to be great. I actually have to wait a while to watch it. I started watching Smallville with a friend at uni as he had them all on dvd (up to season 6 at that point), and while we lived together we watched them. So I'm going to visit him so we can watch it together.

I'm not getting my hopes up though. Last year I was really excited for Lost's finale and was really disappointed by that. We'd just better get a shot of him in the suit and flying otherwise it'll be a complete joke (although it would be fun to read all the ranting ).

I'm not really all that optimistic about the finale because the penultimate episode really pissed me off. You introduce the Legion of Doom for like 10 secs in the 2nd to last episode and that's it?

That could have been your fucking arc for the entire season. Did you really need to rip-off as many other movies as you could instead of actually using characters from the comics?

Hell. If it's about laziness and coming up with original ideas it would have been less work for the writers to use comic storylines and characters than spend time weakly adapting hollywood movies to the characters on Smallville.

I'm expecting either a reset button or a confused Clark talking about needing to move onto the next step in his future as a hero as the final seconds of the show. They've been trolling the franchise for 10 years, why stop because it's the last episode.

Heheh. I remember when I first started posting here about seven or eight years ago and it seemed like most posters on this board were angry and bitter. I assumed it was due to the current state of Star Trek. It doesn't seem as angry and bitter as it used to be though.

I just hope that the final two hours aren't completely lame, but there's been little this season to bolster my expectations. We'll see.

Despite the show's inconsitent nature, I will miss it. It was fun way to win down the college/work week back in the day.

As will I. Truthfully I like Tom Welling as CK / Superman. If they were to decide to continue a tv show with him wearing the suit as Superman I'd tune in.

That Space promo wasn't too bad. So maybe I am right in that we'll see some kind of flash forward. The "Smallville" comic was a nice touch even if it's corny. The art reminded me of one of Gary Frank's covers to Superman: Secret Origin. You'd think though the kid would be reading a "Superman" comic in the future though. Sigh.

There have been a lot of bad guys that Clark has had to defeat by shoving them. Sometimes he had to shove them twice! He still can't fly though.

I have a bit of restored faith for the Finale in the quick bit of Jonathan handing Clark the \S/ Suit in the Space promo, although why the truck Jonathan is there in the first place is kinda... dumb? .. par for the Smallville course, I guess.
