If they had paired down the Vorik scenes (though they were actually interesting and Tuvok of course helped him) and added more about the natives on that planet it would have been rock stellar

Oh dear. Not a huge Vorik fan im afraid. Too underdeveloped. I am surprised he is Taylor's son. Had no idea.
Probably the reason why he got so much screen time in seasons 3 and 4 and probably the reason why he dissapeared when Taylor left.
Well...I like Vorik. I like the scene where he's all nonchalant on the holodeck after taking the doctor's holosex prescription. The Doctor thinks he's cured him, but Vorik is scheming to get his mate. It's hilarious. I think B'elanna should have given him a chance, or at least set him up with a friend.
I kind of like him too. I enjoyed his part in the new books too

People keep saying "You got to read Eternal Tide and [whatever the other title is] !" is there a book prior to that, that is important? Or do I start there and go forward?

That said, if you really want context on the events that "Eternal Tide" covers, you'd need to read "Before Dishonor" (obligatory warning - this book is written by Peter David and many here would likely argue that it brings out his knack for excesses at its worst) and the "Destiny" trilogy (which is really pretty essential Trek reading anyhow these days, and three great books in general). These books aren't Voyager-centric, but there are pertinent events in them.

Well...even though the ponn far was making him all crazy, grabbing her face was not ok.I neverreally like him. I did find him quite obnoxious, especially in "Blood Fever". I remember that I actually cheered when B'Ellanna knocked him!
