Skipping episodes

I don't skip any of the episodes in season 1, season 2 and season 3. It's all good entertainment.

There are some episodes which I find hard to watch for different reasons: "The Chute" with all that mistreating of Tom and Harry, "Blood Fever" with Vorik's crazy behavior and B'Elanna acting weird, "Elogium" which is rather boring, "Real Life" which is even more boring and "Emanations" which also is a boring episode.

But none of those episodes are so bad that I can't watch them, however I always watch them together with the episode after too because then I have something to look forward too.

As for "Threshold", if I tell myself that the events in that episode never happened and that is only a nightmare Janeway had, then it's actually funny to watch!

As for seasons 4-7, I don't have them on DVD and if I had then it would be easier to write a list over the episodes I won't skip, which are "Nemesis", "Equinox" 1 and 2 and "Blink Of an Eye".

However, if I do buy season 4-7 I could probably watch all episodes except two which I would never ever watch, not even at gunpoint and they are "The Gift" and that insulting season 6 episode.

You don't need the DVDs to watch. Many streaming services have all the episodes available

Here is a quick line or two about why these ones get skipped.

Heroes and Demons , - Holodeck-Gone-Wrong episodes are hit and miss for me, this one was a miss. I didn't find the holodeck characters at all interesting and I didn't see any chemistry between the doctor and the lady viking.

Elogium - For me , this episode really shined a light on the struggle the writers were having with the character Kes. Is she an adult? Is she a child ? is she both ? Up to this point I had seen her as Intellectually an adult ( Smart, quick problem solving, photographic memory ) but emotionally younger, possibly closer to a child's level of development, with that in my head, all the talk about whether she should have a baby just because she could seemed totally mis placed. Having a child because you have just developed the physical capacity to get pregnant is one of the worst reasons I could think of to have one.

Persistence of vision - Holodeck-Gone-Wrong , sort of, not really. None of the one off characters made a memorable impression , no moments stnad out for me, forgettable

Blood fever - Ug, I felt the writers to often leaned on "I'm So Angry I Can Barely Contain It!!!!!!" routine to remind us that B'Elana is Klingon. None of the Klingon characters of the past were ever this rageful. The whole mind mend some how transferring the Vulcan urges seemed like a cheap trick , easy one to pass for me

Darkling - Physco stalker Doctor didn't work for me; Again we find a new version of Kes here; objectively this is one of my favorite Kes's if this had been the Kes they started with and built off of , that would have been wonderful. Unfortunately by the time this episode rolled around we have already met and gotten to know Kes, and everything we had already gotten to know didn't feel like it lined up with the Kes of this episode.

Real Life- Horrible , horrible episode. That B'Elanna's modifications caused the death of his child was unbelievable . I don't care if when she metaphorically kicked the child , she was just looking to hurt the family , not kill the child. The fact that the child was loved by the Doctor and then got killed as a result of B'Elanna was atrocious; the fact that the didn't just restore a backup was stupid.

The Fight - Holodeck-Gone- oh wait. Hallucination gone wrong - The use of the boxing ring /fight coach story to try to communicate the story to the audience was clunky. I can't even tell you exactly how this episode wrapped up its been so long since I watched it through .

Barge of the dead- Oh look, B'Elanna is angry about something, good reminder for us that she is Klingon. I almost forgot :) This whole religious experience didnt ring true ; I prefer when trek takes a more neutral view of religion , this one felt like the story got resolved only when B'Elanna accepted some of the Klingon mythology. I did love her monologue at the end though.

I'm not big on the one where Janeway has to hold a stone up in the air for hours.

Ones i skip:

False Profits: the ferengi...enough said.

Favorite son: Harry's harem...yea...just no.

Latent Image: the needs of the one out ways the needs of the many. Spock would be appauled.

11:59- that's bedtime and this episode puts me to sleep.

Virtuoso- only good part in this episode is when Janeway says 'I don't remember giving you permission to use my first name.'

Fury- how far can we throw a good character under the bus.

Unimatrix Zero part 2- if Picard can wear borg implants, so can Janeway! The continued decline of the Borg.

Lineage- altering a child in utero because you had a rough childhood! Altering the doctor to force him to do the deed. Nasty with a capital N.

Author Author- doctor finally shows how little respect he has for the crew.

Renaissance Man- Doctor only cares about Janeway...the rest...who cares.

Endgame- What can i say? Horrible romance, no ensemble cast, totally contradicts Shattered amd and the principles of the temporal time directive, and we don't get to see them arrive home. I heard the regular writers were banned from the develop of this episode. It shows.

Whenever I rewatch Voyager there are episodes I usually skip. What are episodes you skip during a rewatch?

For me...
Heroes and demons
Cathexis
Elogium
Non sequitor
Parturition
Persistance of vision
Tattoo
Cold fire
Sacred Ground
Warlord
Favorite son
Unforgettable
The Fight
11:59
Good shepherd

Ok wow i didn't realize how many
I’ll tell you after I’ve rewatched  Though I did skip most of Cathexis, most of the holodeck ones, and the “Chakotay learns to hate” one. And the second half of “Sacred Ground”. And 11.59.

But if an episode stars the Ferengi or the Borg, I’ll watch it. I hated Butthead and Bevis, or whatever those Happy Tree Friends of NAOMI WILDMAN were called. NW herself is likeable enough. But I digress.

Remind me why.

Euh, why?
That being said, I'm myself more excited by "Endgame"- part 2 than the part 1, which is for me too soft in the pace w/ the whole part on the virtual future of the crew in 29th century & C/7 moments.
‎On the other hand, I love the face to face between both Janeways (hey, two for the price of one!) which mainly made the second part.
-> the problem is that the french version of Endgame is proposed in the form of a tV movie so, to skip the whole part 1, just before Adm. Kathryn Janeway's grand entrance in 24th century is quite difficult! :D

Because I'm curious. I like to "hear" what she has to say.

This is an aside, but I want to thank Sophie74656 for creating this thread, which inspired me to create a similar theme across all the series.

Having to do that actually made me work hard at finding something good about episodes I hate, and I have seen some interesting responses in those threads.

So thank you, Sophie74656.

I saw that other thread, that was interesting to think about

No, Catarina, you didn't understand what I wanted to say ... or maybe I misspoke.
I just wanted to know why she only skip these 2 episodes (especially Scorpion II, knowing that this part explained why Seven joined Voyager afterwards) too. That's all. :)

Whoops. Now I understand the context.

No worries. I just like Species 8472 and both those episodes are brutal on them. I have seen them though so know the flow of the story and certainly wouldn't recommend someone new skipping the episodes. In fact I think they are considered quite popular.
