There appears to be a very rose colored sanitization of movies from a childhood. I've been rewatching some 80s movies and the content was always pushing a line of some kind, with violence or threats of violence, even with kids.Anyone else a little confused to see people recognising 'The Goonies' influence, but then be shocked to see violence and (very) mild horror? Did anyone actually see Goonies? I mean; this part alone!
80's family movies were very dark compared to the sanitised saccharine tat that's been the standard of the genre since the mid-90's it seems. 'The Goonies', 'Return to Oz', 'Gremlins', 'The Witches', 'Little Monsters', 'Time Bandits', 'Young Sherlock Holmes', 'The Dark Crystal', 'The Neverending Story', basically any Don Bluth animated movie ever . . .
I wonder if people who grew up with these films even remember what they might have felt over the content at the time she not filtered through memory or desensitized lens of aging.
