Since Kirk is on the show perhaps we can get more backstory on the Tarsus IV incident...

Yup. Have my old childhood fan writings talking about Pike. Ever since I saw the Cage.

Interesting. I always liked Kirk over Pike. I like Jeffrey Hunter. He was a good actor and I liked him in The Searchers and of course King of Kings. Of course who knows how Pike would have developed after the Cage if Hunter had continued.

I'm the opposite on this series though. Wesley did not steal the show like Anson Mount did on Discovery.....

You don't know that, of course. Hell, the show might have pulled a bigger audience with Jack Lord. ;)
I'm not sure the toupee budget for Shatner would have been sufficient for the hairspray/gel for Lord (though Mount is certainly showing it can be done on a modern budget). ;)

It has nothing to do with Wesley or Mount. It has everything to do with my interest in the characters. And, even if I were interested in Kirk (I'm not) this is Pike's show. At this point, it's like if Jellico shows up and everyone demands he take over from Picard. It makes no sense.

Who's asking for that?

Hyperbole on my part.

Allow me to rephrase: I don't want more of Kirk's backstory in Pike's show if at all possible. It makes no sense to explore Kirk in Pike's and CO.'s show. Give me more Pike, or even Number 1 over Kirk.

Agreed. I want to see the strange new worlds. As in more first contacts, more early spacefaring incidents, more creative new dilemmas. The transporters and other tech are 10 years or so before TOS, so they shouldn't be as well developed, procedures shouldn't be as well developed.

I have a dilemma with TOS ... it says to boldly go etc..., But the enterprise is usually on a patrol mission, patrolling around locations starfleet has already been, going from starbase to starbase.

SNW should be seeing more new things for the first time, doing more new things for the first time. Basically doing more exploring. But that's just my opinion.

This is the Star Trek dilema: Let's boldly go and yet do the exact same thing and repeat similar story beats and not really show much change at all.

I mean, the transporter really doesn't do much differently from show to show. I don't know how it can't be less developed when it pretty much just does the same plot based things, from TOS to TNG to now.

They pretty much got the hang of the transporter by the end of ENT, so that ship has sailed.

Yeah, it's curious how many fans insist that Trek is properly all about these new worlds and exploration, when in fact from the very beginning most Trek stories haven't really been about either.

All because the voiceover during the credits says the show is about that kind of space exploration. If only life and art were so straightforward as to follow a simple mission statement.

I mean, they were well into production of episodes on the first season of TOS before Roddenberry and Justman even drafted that "Space...the final frontier" mantra.

This show is exactly what it should be.
