Should Americans be required to buy health insurance?

Folks, I'm seeing a lot of double posting here. Please make use of the multiquote function or edit into one post.

Yes, a very small percentage. 50, er 47, er, 40, no wait, 30 million. And about 20 million of those are illegal aliens. So we're going to ruin the health care of 300 million just to give 10 million some coverage and it's going to cost 2.5T. Not including the doctor bill coming up to fill the gaps of the health care bill.

Do you have a link to any of that? If not we're all going to know you just pulled it out of your ass.

Uh, what? If you need a link to ANY of that then you haven't listened to any of Obama's speeches on the subject nor watched or read news reports. This is the very basis of the whole health care fiasco.

Glad to see that Attorney Generals are filing suit on Reid for alleged bribery.

1. It's "Attorneys General". So...well done there.
2. They're all Republican AGs, in 17 states, so not even half the states.

And yes. Link please.

A lot of the people that have health insurance can barely afford it. We need to help those people out, too.

Or they go into bankruptcy...
Bankruptcy or death, bankruptcy or death. I'm thinking, I'm thinking....

More like slow pain death or slow painful death...

Bankruptcy is devastating to say the least. But what if you have a family? Wait, you don't care. Let the children starve and become malnourished!

And as numerous anecdotal examples in this thread alone show, even a lot of people who have health insurance apparently have pretty crappy health care in the US.

or have health insurers who retroactively cancel policies after a procedure that would of been covered has been carried out.

but that doesn't matter to the fuck-you-I've-got-mine crowd who are so opposed to health care reform.

It would be poetic justice if they picked up something nasty from some who contagious because they'd been denied coverage which then lead to a loss of coverage and big out of pocket expenses.

I find it stunning, yet somehow not surprising, that some people here openly wish serious illness on people all the while claiming to be concerned about people's health. I don't care much for your opinions Marc, yet I would never wish illness upon you. Perhaps you ought to rethink your post.

It's been long known that "American life-expectancy numbers are influenced by things that have nothing to do with the quality of the healthcare system, such as highway fatalities, homicides, and obesity."

Apples and oranges between the US and other countries with these numbers. Hopefully that's not what everyone is basing their claims on. It would explain, however, why some seem to think other countries have better health care.

Yeah because there are no traffic accidents in Canada.

Yes, we have all been made aware that you think it's appropriate for people to become destitute for the crime of living. Land of the free indeed.

And we are aware that many feel our children should be responsible for the out of control spending by a government run amok. You want destitute? UHC, bailouts, etc.

Some of us aren't cool with this style of government. And in the interest of being fair, I assign blame to the Bush Administration on this as well.

What goves our government the right to mortgage not only our future, but our children's as well?

After reading most of Gerth's posts, I have come to the conclusion that he really don't know what he's talking about.

If the typo had been posted by a supporter of UHC would you have mentioned it? We all make them, buddy.

But inheriting their parents debts for their basic health care needs... that's aokay by you?

As to the rest, short term spending is sometimes necessary for long term savings... like, for instance, preventing our constantly ballooning health care costs and preventing another Great Depression. What you fail to understand is that the alternatives are worse to spending. Opposing all spending as a matter of principle is simply irresponsible when our children's future is concerned.

It wasn't a typo, it was ignorance. And yes I would.

I don't like ignorant people.

Perhaps you ought to reconsider the condescension in your post.

Yup, only. If these people can't get insurance through work them perhaps the Democrats can start a charity fund to pay for the health care. Then anyone can voluntarily contribute. Or they can just fix medicare and cover those people that way. But better to make people uncomfortable in their poverty so they decide to better themselves.

Ah, here it is again: the old 'the poor are just lazy' kind of thinking.

FYI: It's not only the poor or those without insurance that have problems getting their medical expenses covered.

he should also consider that his attitude is pretty much fuck-you-I've-got-mine.

Is there anything left to this discussion besides personal attacks? The Lefty-Righty thing has gone beyond boring.

You can't tell me you're suprised. It's a new Godwin's Law. The longer a political disscussion continues, the probability of it's devolving into a "Left/Right Sucks" fiasco approaches 1.
