Ships of the Line 2012

Only seen the images on my phone but what I did see I liked the Merian & Ambassador. The image from 'Tomorrow Is Yesterday' is pretty sweet too.

I'm having Kind of Bloop flashbacks.

Anyway, I rather like seeing new takes on older material. It might've been more appropriate during an anniversary year, but there's nothing to be done for that.

Wow. Maisel's an asshole and Baio was definitely in the right.

Nah, "definitely" is way too strong. You may empathize with him, but it's not at all clear that he had a right to use the work.

Splitting hairs. A CG version of the Mona Lisa would still be just that.

No, it wouldn't. It would be a different interpretation of the same subject. Technique is an important part of art. The medium is part of the message, so changing the medium changes the work into something distinct.

It's not even a re-interpretation of the subject. It's the exact same image, just CG.

And please tell me how the message changed in this particular case. The original painting was also used as a cover btw.

Beautiful images but I too agree that i've seen some of them before. The borg cube chase has been on Sci-fi meshes for a few years now.
No criticisim against the work on the calander, but I was hoping to see some new concepts like the new Amassador which looks fantastic.

One has been my wallpaper since the trekmovie story broke...

What starship class is the Allegiance? Has it been seen before?

Edit: Ahhh, I see that this has been asked...neat, I didn't even know it had been in a novels before...I always like when they visualize these literary starships! I got a look at the video as well...I must say that is by far the best combination of an E-D and E-E I have ever seen...totally believable as a starship class.

Did anyone else look at the front cover and think "Heavy Cruiser Evolution Blueprints"?

I must admit I'm not taken with the "Mirandakirager" USS Planck. It looks way too agressive for a science ship. Those nacelles alone look triple-armoured, or something.

^Well, they are braving the unknown wilds of the Delta Quadrant. And they've already lost one ship within the first month or so of the voyage. This isn't a job for vulnerable ships.

And when did that happen?

The artist is Dru Blair. If you google "Dru Blair Star Trek Prints", you'll probably be able to find somewhere you can buy a copy. You'll probably have to go to eBay, since they're all pretty old.

Has any Ship of the Line calendar featured the 3-nacelled Galaxy-class dreadnought from the "All Good Things" alternate timeline?

Someone decided to make the USS Richthofen this class of ship, long before I arrived on the scene... and it's bloody hard to find blueprints and graphics for the class, so when I find them, I pounce on them. The one actual graphic I have of my ship is on the front page of our website (and yeah, I came up with a nifty backstory for the paint job).

Saw the pics on Drexler's blog. Have some excellent desktop backgrounds now to keep me inspired. If I could title this calender, it would be Evolutions. You really get to see the design evolution of starfleet ships in 2012 from the functional TOS era to the graceful TNG era to the relaunch era's slipstream modernism.
