Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings: The Rising and Advancing of the Spirit

There's no thread yet for this new Marvel franchise, so I'm starting one. :)

Back in the '70's everyone was Kung Fu Fighting, and that was a great thing. Marvel had two main titles, Iron Fist and Shang Chi, Master of Kung Fu. The Netflix Iron Fist was, umm, disappointing. (I will admit that the fighting scenes were admirable, although Matt could take Danny in a second.) I have higher hopes for Shang Chi.

I'm a huge fan of the series Kim's Convenience, not just because I live a few blocks from the store, or that we went to see the theatrical play, but also because the show was hilarious and I loved all of the actors. When I saw that Simu Liu (Jung Kim) was playing Shang Chi my eyes lit up and from now on I can't resist. So, I'm admitting my bias here ;) ,

So far it's looking good, but there's a ways to go. For me, as long as they include a good Black Jack Tarr I'll be good to go.

I am looking forward to this, as much to see Simu Liu's performance as anything. Kim's Convenience is much beloved in our house.

Liu's story is very interesting in that he has been very vocal about standing against the stereotyping of Southeast Asians as nerdy computer types. When I first heard him say that (long before the Shang Chi decision), I was shocked because the stereotype used to be martial artists. It will be interesting to see what Liu brings to the role and how well Marvel handles the movie--ie. will this be their next Black Panther?

I'm really looking forward to this, I'm not familiar with the character or Simu Liu, but I love martial arts movies, and Marvel hasn't let me down yet.
Is the second half of the thread title a reference to something? It's not part of the movie's official title.

In the '70's comics, Shang Chi's name was translated as "The rising and advancing of the spirit". I'm no expert in Chinese, but It has stuck with me for 4 decades or so. Anyway, that was their intent, and I hope they stick with it.

Yet another thing to look forward to...Michele Yeoh

This made me want to go back and rewatch "All Hail the King"...and I'm surprised to see that it's not on Disney+.

That doesn't look like a real trailer. The logo is odd, the voice over is odd, and I didn't see Liu there at all.

EDIT: Just saw the previous reply about this being fan made.

I was thinking that looked like the guy from Into the Badlands.
Actually I thought the same thing about Into The Badlands, but I got caught up in my enthusiasms.
I could still edit that out, but every now and then it does me good to hang my head in shame.
Still, I hope this film is great.

Composed mostly of clips from other films. If you didn’t recognize Donnie Yen as Ip Man, you need to see that series.

The best way to tell if a trailer on youtube is real is if it's on Movieclips Trailers, or one of the studio channels. Movieclips is usually pretty fast at adding any new trailers, and the studios put then up right away. If it's not in one of those places, it's probably fake.

So are the obvious clips from "All Hail the King," which is what prompted my interest in watching that short again.
Honestly I didn't get past the Scar speech before clicking off, as that was plenty to convince me it wasn't legit. Incidentally that is also about as far as I got into the 'Lion King' remake...

I don't think I even heard the voice over because the inconsistent styles of the film production tipped me off right away that it was fan production. I was mildly curious how it was going to do it. When I saw the "All Hail the King" footage, I peaced out.
