Why does this have to automatically be racist?
A black man failing a math test presented as a joke would be racist because thats a racist stereotype. An Asian woman not knowing how to drive is the same type of stereotype and just as racist. They shouldn't release this movie. Burn all the copies and we will agree to pretend that this racist trash wasn't made in the first place.
If none of the many Asian people involved both behind and in front of the camera didn't object to the scene and get it removed, then I'm going take that as evidence that it's not racist. With a movie like this, I'm pretty sure if anybody felt anything in it was racist, they would have pretty quick to change or remove it.

As mentioned before, I'm not familiar with this character at all, but based on the trailer, it looks like it'll be a lot of fun. Also, it has Awakafina in it so that's a big plus in my book!
Director and co-writer Destin Daniel Cretton is Japanese-American and co-writer David Callaham is Chinese-American, so I don't know where you're getting that from...

Shang Chi looks like a great step forward for representation but I'm a little disappointed CNN etc. keep calling him Marvel's first Asian superhero. He's not, he's not even the first Asian marvel superhero lead - he's the first Asian marvel superhero lead in a movie.
If I was Chloe Bennett [Wong], Jessica Henwick, Elodie Yung, or Benedict Wong I'd be feeling a little ignored/underappreciated

I just rewatched the trailer and I noticed when he was doing push-ups he went from knuckles to palms facing forward to palms facing out. I don't know why that stood out to me.

After Doctor Strange 2, I'm probably most looking forward to this. I'm only vaguely familiar with the character from the comics, but I just love wuxia movies and this looks like a wonderful blend of that and Marvel's style. And Tony Leung is a fantastic actor. This looks like everything Iron Fist should have been, and more. I can't wait.

Did she get super powers? I stopped watching partway through the series. I was just listing powered individuals, but sure if Black Widow & Hawkeye count she probably does too.
Someone mentioned Runaways had an Asian superhero too but I never saw any of it.
Regardless, there are a lot. Shang Chi is far from the first, despite the marketing.
Pretty excited for this movie, I think it's gonna be a big hit.

There is no such joke in the movie. We see a bus crashing in the trailer. We don't see what causes the crash. It definitely doesn't seem like a crash caused by an Asian woman driving.
It seems like her driving skills save them from what little we see in the trailer--meant to subvert this stereotype mentioned--a stereotype I never heard about until this thread BTW.
As for Simu-Liu, I am so upset they didn't get his hair comics accurate that I probably won't watch this movie now.

I would never expect mainstream media to correctly do their research for what is essentially a fluff piece/entertainment news for them aka not that important.
Hell, they sometimes can't be bothered to get actual maps right or use the right stock footage for reports that could have easily been researched by opening Google or Wikipedia for a minute.
