Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings: The Rising and Advancing of the Spirit

She was already included on the cast list released during the investor presentation.

He's one of the few MCU characters who actually featured in comics that my local store had when I was a kid. (Rocket appeared in one, Machine Man and Anthony Stark Jr in another though Spiderman was in the most).

I'm looking forward to this one.

One of the people attacking Shang-Chi looks like Wes Chatham (Amos from The Expanse). I can't tell if it is him, and all the cast lists online are incomplete.

If you mean the chap I think you do, I think it's Florian Munteanu. (I know the character he's playing popped up in the story I read).

It looks like it'll be a great combination of Marvel movie and kun-fun movie. I love both of those kinds of movies, so I'm really looking forward to this.

Ok.. I know absolutely nothing about this character other than he's the son of the Mandarin, correct? So I wonder if this is going to be in-universe with the other MCU movies, since Iron Man already dealt with a fake Mandarin...

All the MCU movies are in the same universe. It's their whole shtick. Hell, since the Sony contracts were renegotiated, even the Venom/Morbius movies are 'in' the MCU, even though they clearly don't fit well (I'm guessing they might be rationalized away as separate universes within the MCU multiverse).

In any case, the Mandarin is not an issue. Marvel already did a one-shot claiming that there was a real Mandarin out in the world the whole time who had nothing to do with the fake from IM3, so they're definitely not married to the idea that Killian made the Mandarin up.

Ah... Gotcha.. I was just reading up on the character on wiki... No mention of the Mandarin, but he's linked to Fu Manchu, which Marvel doesn't have the rights to any more.

I'm pretty sure Fu Manchu is public domain now. Well, looking it up he's public domain but his name is still trademarked which just seems to mean they can't use his name on covers or advertising, but that wouldn't exactly be a huge issue with a villain, especially if he's a one-off villain. In any case he's definitely not a character anyone wants to bring back. Yellow peril would not be a good look for a blockbuster movie villain in 2021. So they go with the Mandarin instead who is both less bad and also totally owned by marvel in case he turns out to be popular enough that they want to do bigger things with him.

I've not got much fondness for the character - this is definitely the MCU movie I've got the least enthusiasm for. Basically none whatsoever.

I'm reminded of when I was absolutely convinced Guardians would be a massive flop, so what do I know.

I'll give it a go...
