SGU renewed for Season Two

I think it's less "To focus on SGU" and more "Because there's not as much money around."

Oh, by "to focus on SGU" I most certainly meant "to focus their ever-limited financial resources on SGU." It's a shame MGM is so strapped for cash right now. It must be serious, too, because the two SG-1 DVD movies were profitable.

Its not quite that simple. Yes I could stop watching but the point is I do have an interest in the larger Gate franchise. As long as Universe is on the air it takes money, time and effort away from SG-1 and Atlantis movies or other more established, better parts of the franchise that could make better use of it.

But they're still doing SG-1 movies, so your argument holds no water.

So, the next one is in production, then? Or has MGM put it on hold (along with the Atlantis movie) to focus on SGU? It's still the second scenario, as far as I know.
What i do not get is that part of the SGA set is still up and costing them money so why not get it made or take the set down.

You've got me. The only reason I can fathom is that MGM is in such dire straits that they cannot afford to film the movie--so they're paying the (presumably) lesser cost to hold onto the sets for as long as they can and hoping their profit margin will turn around. But it doesn't seem like it should be cheaper to keep the sets standing on the stages for so long.

If the series continues to be a massive bore, with very little interesting things happening, the ratings will take a nose dive, once the 'Ok I'll keep watching a few more episodes in the hope that something exciting and interesting happens' crowd finally gives up.

It's not just the fact they don't have the money, it's also they know that no one will buy the movie on DVD because of the economy.

A fair point. DVD sales have been down. Still, holding those sets can't be cheap. Couldn't they film the movie, put it in the vault for a little while, and save money by tearing down the sets and not having to rent the space any longer?

I think if they don't make there minds up soon about SGA film/sets it could be the most expensive film never made.

The SG1 and Altantis movies are probably on hold til after the sale of MGM as is the next James Bond movie.

I think they are afraid the movies would be leaked.

MGM needs to be sold in bits or taken over though I do think these movies or at least one of them will come out in 2010 towards the latter half as DVD sales go up because the economy around the world will be much stronger.

I heard CBS/Paramount was buying the rights to Stargate!!!!!! :) Ok...bad Joke!

I, honestly, don't get it when people say "I hope this show gets canceled!"

Some people simply believe that quality should be rewarded, and that the opposite should be true as well. Their definition of quality is generally "entertainment I like/approve of."
