SGU renewed for Season Two

I'm glad it'll be back. Hopefully, they'll improve it. From the interview in the other thread, it sounds like there will be less stone use, less Earth. That's great! Sounds like there will be at least some aliens. I don't want SGU to be devoid of aliens like BSG. It doesn't have to be alien of the week but we should have outside threats, not just human conflict and survival stuff.

Anyone who hopes it's cancelled is just being mean spirited. Don't watch it. It's entertaining enough for some of us to watch.

Mr Awe
Agreed 100% on all counts. I haven't totally felt that sense of total isolation that one would imagine being trapped billions of light years from home. The stone use is almost too convenient; but I suppose if they weren't addressed in some way, the rabid, irrational haters like OmahaStar would have freaked the fuck out about the writers 'IGNORIN TEH ANCIENTT STONES!!!1!!!11.'

I'm glad it's been renewed, although I suppose it was a given for at least another year.

I've really come to love this show. I pretty much got over the cancellation of Atlantis for Universe a while ago (hurry the frack up with the movie already!). It isn't perfect, but it's got A LOT of potential.

Great news! :techman:

I dig the show. It's a bit slow, about a third of the episodes so far have been kind shaky, but frankly, I already like it more than the bulk of 'Atlantis'. I'll reserve judgment for the rest of the season, though.

See, this argument never made much sense to me. I mean, I get the central premise, but when you watch a show live, what is stopping you from getting up and leaving the room during a commercial break? Also, even when you tape it, you still get the commercials. Even if you fast forward, you are still seeing the commercials.

Ever since I hacked a 30-second skip into my DVR I don't even really see the ads anymore. Though strangely I do sometimes find myself watching a show live without blitzing the ads though usually I'm online or something. I rarely do just sit and watch the ads until the show returns.

For my part, I could never get into Atlantis, but I find Universe very accessible. I just hope it improves, overall.

DVR news is very interesting and proves the show is doing fine with the ratings but the timeslot is not...

The third Stargate series has been picking up an average of 46.9 percent more viewers in the seven days after the Friday night broadcast, thanks to DVRs.

The show is averaging 2.6 million viewers so far, when the DVR boost is factored in.
These numbers, of course, don’t account for those watching the show on Hulu, iTunes, Amazon.com and other (less savory) means.
BSG final season lead the way for most DVR show for SYFY over 2009...

59.4 percent increase in viewership due to DVR time-shifting.
The question is how do SYFY get those 47% to tune in live ?

* Summer Move

* 8pm Friday

* New Day

While SG-U can get away with viewers not tuning in for Live broadcasts at the moment, the older it gets it will need to bring them back.

I still want a SY FY block 8-11 of SGU/Caprica/Santcuary.

The new DVR numbers are for viewers who watch the commercials. SyFy can use those numbers to sell to advertisers all they want.

I think the point is people want it canceled to show MGM they shouldn't have run the series into the ground, or at the very least should have fired soem of the writers.

The solution is to NOT watch something you don't like, SG-U is a different take on the franchise and its worth a shot for the writers/producers to try that no matter the outcome. Afterwards the haters will get there way because SG franchise will most likely rest then...For now if you like stay then watch and if you don't find like then find something else to do with your precious time.

^^ Stop watching? Pretty straightforward.

I second this.

I've not be quiet about my criticism of the show, but if I hated it, I'd stop watching. I sure don't wish for its cancellation.

Well if people stopped watching the show it'd be cancelled for sure, so I do think people forthe most part like what they're seeing.

Sanctuary has been so weird this year. Although last week with Shanks was really good. Probably the best all season. I wish Magnus would have an accident that causes her to lose that accent.

SG:U, man, the only episode I really liked was the last one and only the last couple of minutes. Hopefully everyone but Eli and his girl get's lost someplace and somehow Carter can show up with a replacement crew and we can save the show.

Oh, and buy some real light bulbs!

That's too bad. I was hoping it would be canceled.

Ditto, but what can you do.
I guess you don't have anything better to do with your life huh? Sorry, man. :(

Its not quite that simple. Yes I could stop watching but the point is I do have an interest in the larger Gate franchise. As long as Universe is on the air it takes money, time and effort away from SG-1 and Atlantis movies or other more established, better parts of the franchise that could make better use of it.

But they're still doing SG-1 movies, so your argument holds no water.

In the end an ongoing series will make more money for them than a DVD movie here and there. And the ratings for Atlantis were declining and Universe's ratings are higher than what Atlantis had been getting so it's really in their favor to make the new series.

So, the next one is in production, then? Or has MGM put it on hold (along with the Atlantis movie) to focus on SGU? It's still the second scenario, as far as I know.

The fact is, if the powers that be thought SG-1 and Atlantis movies would bring in more dough than SGU, they would be doing those instead.

SGU didn't get canceled because it gets decent ratings (for Syfy, anyway).
