SGU renewed for Season Two

am hoping SYFY will come to there senses and have SGU at 8pm with Caprica at 9pm and Sancutary at 10pm. Make a new friday night must see SYFY Block and the ratings will go up...

Sanctuary has been picked up as well for a 3rd season that will be 20 episodes long.

Right now they're going to air Caprica on its own for at least half its season. I suppose the thinking is that its better to have original programming airing year round.

2.6 million viewers seems to be good ratings for SyFy.

With half of those numbers made of audiences who DVR the show, they won't matter to advertisers. Which is all that really matters. If fifty million people suddenly tuned in, but all skipped the adverts, it wouldn't rate any higher to the advertisers. SyFy's PR department is floating these larger numbers for publicity reasons only.

Nah, they'll just discover an "Ancient matter transporter" that can send items from Earth to Destiny, but nothing bigger than a mini fridge.

"Whatcha got there, Dr. Rush?"

"Oh, that's just our new Dell Dimension notebook. It's got a quad-core processor, so I can decrypt Ancient databases over four times faster!"

"That's swell!"

Which reminds me, has anyone else noticed that one of the writers is obviously a big-time Mac user, despite the fact that product-placement means the SGC only uses Dells? McKay once made that crack about computer viruses on Atlantis, and Eli mentioned using iMovie in "Justice."

The DVR is changing the way advertisement is done, that's for sure. That said, I don't mind in-show product placement, even when they call attention to it, as long as it's not overly distracting. I mean, the car product placement they did in Heroes was kind of funny. "Quick, let's get back to the Versa!"

I have just watch back to the future 1 and 2 and even though there is product placement all over the place it did not spoil the film.

DVR news is very interesting and proves the show is doing fine with the ratings but the timeslot is not...

The third Stargate series has been picking up an average of 46.9 percent more viewers in the seven days after the Friday night broadcast, thanks to DVRs.

The show is averaging 2.6 million viewers so far, when the DVR boost is factored in.

These numbers, of course, don’t account for those watching the show on Hulu, iTunes, Amazon.com and other (less savory) means.

BSG final season lead the way for most DVR show for SYFY over 2009...

59.4 percent increase in viewership due to DVR time-shifting.

The question is how do SYFY get those 47% to tune in live ?

* Summer Move

* 8pm Friday

* New Day

While SG-U can get away with viewers not tuning in for Live broadcasts at the moment, the older it gets it will need to bring them back.

I still want a SY FY block 8-11 of SGU/Caprica/Santcuary.

They are not going to get those people to tune in live. People go out on Friday nights, and most people are not going to stay in to watch a TV show when they have a DVR that will record it so they can watch later.

Really, that's what it boils down to. That's why anything late night on a Friday is in the "death slot." Nobody's home.

I'm glad it'll be back. Hopefully, they'll improve it. From the interview in the other thread, it sounds like there will be less stone use, less Earth. That's great! Sounds like there will be at least some aliens. I don't want SGU to be devoid of aliens like BSG. It doesn't have to be alien of the week but we should have outside threats, not just human conflict and survival stuff.

Anyone who hopes it's cancelled is just being mean spirited. Don't watch it. It's entertaining enough for some of us to watch.

Is it even possible? I almost never watch live TV anymore, except for news and sports. It really wouldn't matter when they aired it for me. I suspect that is the way society is going as a whole and that the more tech loving SF community is just ahead of the curve.

"Mini-fridge. Full of booze."

"...WIN."

See, this argument never made much sense to me. I mean, I get the central premise, but when you watch a show live, what is stopping you from getting up and leaving the room during a commercial break? Also, even when you tape it, you still get the commercials. Even if you fast forward, you are still seeing the commercials.

However, the fact remains that in recent years, networks are taking DVR tapings into account when looking at the renewal options for a show. If they were not, why bother collecting the data and subsequently reporting it?

Nothing is stopping you from leaving the room, or muting the commercials. I often do both. However, data shows that the vast majority of viewers who DVR shows definitely fast-forward through the commercials. People watching live are much more likely to watch and hear the commercials. It's as simple as that.

Has it? I thought I'd recently seen the opposite.

Well, it doesn't really matter now, does it? Networks take online and DVR viewings into account. Also, the show was renewed. Clearly the network received enough funding from the ads to warrant a second season.

-Has it? I thought I'd recently seen the opposite

There was a recent media news article suggesting that a significant portion of dvr users don't automatically fast forwars thru ad breaks. I'll try and track that down and post a link.

Looking it up, here, its was incorrect to use the term "vast majority." 54% of viewers with DVRs fast-forward through commercials. So, some 46% of those extra viewers do warrant being counted. But not all of them, as Gateworld suggests with reporting that has always been biased, which is not surprising, given the site is a Stargate fan website.

I'm very happy to hear that both SG:U and Sanctuary will be back. Along with Fringe, they've become my favorite new series.
