SGU renewed for Season Two

I, honestly, don't get it when people say "I hope this show gets canceled!" I can understand when someone doesn't like a show or to be surprised to see that a show is still on after you'd think it wouldn't last for long. I can even understand for people to constantly watch and complain about a particular show when they don't like it (sorta). But to actively wish for it to be canceled?

Here is another way to say it: "I hope all those people lose their jobs." That's what it equates to. It's a terrible thing to wish upon people.

I guess I can understand it if a company or business has an active cause that a person is against (for example, say a business is actively anti-gay or holds Nazi beliefs - I can understand wanting to see a place like that close down).

However, this is a TV show. What they are doing doesn't really matter in the long run outside of some entertainment.

Glad to see it'll stick around another year. The show isn't perfect but it doesn't evoke utter contempt from me, and it is occasionally entertaining, so it hasn't worn out its welcome with me yet. :techman:

It's actually been the first Stargate series I've ever been able to really get into and it's really grown on me. I'm glad it's getting a second season

It's been mostly terrible, but it definitely has the production values needed to be a great series. We'll see how it goes in the next ten episodes.

If this series is cancelled, SyFy will pick up another, giving plenty of other people (or, since so much of their content is produced in Vancouver, plenty of the same people) who might otherwise be unemployed work.

I hope it improves.

I'm a little shocked they renewed it so soon. The ratings aren't that hot and the show isn't cheap considering it's a new show. It's clear they are trying to follow BSG and I hope they have a basic 3-5 year plan and that's it.

Yay, Sanctuary!

Anyway, I thought SG:U was already picked up for two seasons before the first episode even aired? I remember hearing something about a two year contract for the show a while back.

Is that really something Syfy would do again? Didn't they learn their lesson with First Wave?

There is talk the writers have a two year contract with the network, and the actors probably have a five year contract, but that doesn't mean the actors or the show will be around that long. Most of SG-1 had a contract for an 11th season too, that's how Amanda Tapping was forced to go to Atlantis.

2.6 million viewers seems to be good ratings for SyFy.

With half of those numbers made of audiences who DVR the show, they won't matter to advertisers. Which is all that really matters. If fifty million people suddenly tuned in, but all skipped the adverts, it wouldn't rate any higher to the advertisers. SyFy's PR department is floating these larger numbers for publicity reasons only.
