Really disappointed in this episode. After the last few episodes i was sad that this show got cancelled. But after tonight im back to being glad.
1.) For starters, why bring in McKay and doing nothing with him and not focus on him? We should of learned or got something about Atlantis as hello this was our only shot to do it and hey it could of been a nice gift to those angry Atlantis fans to maybe watch and bring up some ratings cause at the time of filming i dont think Universe was canceled. And another thing, it would of been great to see McKay and Rush an Eli to have alot more time together or in Rush case some time. That would of been gold. Hell McKay could of boosted the Shields or and or figured something cool out about the ship.

2.) Why in bloody hell did they not metion either Jonas nor the Ori. We are in the same SG universe right?
Its the little things like this that makes a good show great or makes a bad show crap. U dont forget what brought you here. If not for SG1 and Atlantis, this show wouldnt of gotten here so why ignore its history.
Its like CSI NY doing a story in Vegas and totally ignoring CSI (Las Vegas). Hell was there been any metions of the ORI on this show?
What about the Super Gate? have they even tried that?

3.) I understand this is a Universe show, but i dont see O'Neal allowing for this situation to happen and piss off the Langara"s. I mean getting to Destiny is important WHY? And couldnt wait WHY? OH cause the LA might attack. Well hell if there anything left of Langara after what the ORI did to them? Wouldnt Jonas involement be enough to get the deal done?
Wouldnt Carter be the better person to explain it than Rodney?
Couldnt we just keep a crew on guard around the planet to help out?

4.)SG1 teams 4 & 5? I so hope i heard that wrong and it was really SG teams 4&5.

5.) Why in blue hell would McKay ever want to give up Atlantis for a old out of date junk like Destiny and also give up Keller?

6.) Did we need to spend half the episode on Rush in bed Perry when so much above could of happened or was said?
Wouldnt it be great to see McKay and Rush talk?
Again so much more could of happened, but the writers once again droped the ball and also totally got McKay wrong. He came across as boring as anyone could of done that part.
Makes me miss Atlantis even more.

Edit : Carl Binder wrote this.

Why would you focus an episode on a guest character? He's there to service the story, not the other way round. It was written by Remi Aubuchon by the way, not Carl Binder.

It's SG-U not SG-1 or Atlantis, he's just a guest character, it's not meant to catch you up on what's been happening in the rest of Stargate.

I have to concur.
Sorry guys belly aching on not hearing about Jonas, Ori, or Atlantis ...is really kinda sour grapes.

I don't think the writers watched any of the other Stargate shows. They had a rough idea of what they were like (so they could flub lines like the "SG-1 teams...") But also there was the relationship at the end seasons of SGA between McKay and Keller.

In this episode, David tried to convice McKay to Join the Destiny team. The writers made it seem as if McKay never had a relationship, as if this was the McKay from several seasons back.

Considering Destiny also needed a Doctor, it's quite possible she could have gone with him. It's quite unlikely Telford would know or care if McKay had a girlfriend in any case.

Why have a Special Guest star? Ah Ratings! And since he is here and writers know there is no way a Atlantis movie is going to be made, then lets throw the fans a bone and give them some info. Really they could of had Anyone do McKays part. It was lame and a waste.

Oh sorry i read that Carl was doing this episode, so i was wrong.

Why would anyone expect a mention of Jonas? He's of zero importance to the story. The planet was part to the story, but Jonas was not.

It was a decent episode, but not as good as the past two. I've always been a bit iffy on the whole consciousness stored in the computer and being connected to people's minds, but having them mention being connected to the ship's matrix just pushed it a bit too far into Matrix/Holodeck territory for me.

The stone swapping to infiltrate the planet was the highlight of the episode, as was seeing McKay and the classic Stargate (even if it was mostly CG), although McKay should have been a bigger part of the episode. He had a fun little back and forth with Eli, but other than that we didn't see him interact all that much with the main characters, even with Young. I wasn't sure how McKay's/SGA's humour would fit into SGU, but it wasn't overdone and worked well. Shame we won't get another opportunity to see him again.
I'm really surprised we don't even get a passing mention about Atlantis. Since we don't know what was planned to happen in the SGA movie, we don't know what he could or couldn't have revealed without spoiling that, but there was zero mention of Atlantis. Again, not essential to this storyline at all, but I'm surprised they put in a main character from SGA without even using the word "Atlantis" from what I recall.

Rating? 6.5/10. I'm not sure whether I'm generous enough to round it up, but it wasn't a bad episode, just not as good as it should have been under the circumstances.

If it were a ratings grab then it would have been in the first half of the season, when they actually mattered. I think having McKay in the episode at all was more than enough of a bone being thrown, having him explain about Atlantis or make references to the Ori is not what the episode needed. This is an episode of SGU, not a SG-1/SGA catchup session. Besides, what is there to tell? Atlantis is still on Earth, the end.

The episode required a genius to put forward the plan and for Telford to trying and recruit, and a diplomat. I think McKay and Woolsey were used to service the plot quite well to be honest.

I enjoyed the inventive use of the communication stones as a form of infiltration. The teamwork + heist gelled well.

Also, was anyone else amused to see Everett hamming it up as the administrator? Priceless.

The exchange between Telford and Mckay was interesting. Do you think the writers were contemplating adding Mckay to the SGU cast?

^^ I thought that at first, but I think it was probably more a comment on Telford's motives than anything else.

Anyone else think Rush might still be in the simulation? I just thought it was odd that they made him wake up in the infirmary rather than the chair.

I feel like this ep was SGU's version of a holodeck episode. We even got the "something went wrong and we can't get out" trope. The use of stones to infiltrate Langarra was very clever. That was my favorite part of the ep. The Rush plot was boring. I understand Rush's actions but they were very irresponsible.

I liked this episode because it moved at a good pace and things actually happened, it felt much more like it belonged in the Stargate universe than most of SGU's episodes.

However, the ending was rather weak, and I think it would have been benefited from cutting out the B-storyline(Rush+Amanda) and just focus on the A-storyline and flesh it out more.

At one point Young tells McKay something like, "Shepherd was right." Anyone knows what that line is in reference to?

that he's a pain in the ass

Not only did we have a chance to hear about Atlantis from Mckay, but Woolsy was there to and we heard nothing. My feeling is Atlantis is on Earth, otherwise I have to believe that McKay (and possibly Woosly) would be on Atlantis in the pegasus galaxy. Telford also mentioned to McKay that he could pretty much assign his own missions, if so i have to believe he would be on Atlantis if is was off of Earth.

Would have been better if the reasons for the heist could have stayed true....or if they had maintained their intent but instead it all boils down to...OOPS we made a mistake.

It would have been nice to see this go down Oceans 11 style.

This episode took SGU a step backwards. Such a shame from a great episode last week.

And whoever posted it is right, this is old McKay, not the current and better McKay, its like they wrote his character from an early season of SGA.

Messing up things as simple as SG-1 Teams 4 and 5 is unacceptable.

No mention of Atlantis, or Jonas and all that, is unacceptable.

Also, when the ship dropped out of FTL the stones should have disconnected briefly, another mistake they didn't show.

Even making a connection to Destiny in their attempt to take over didn't make sense because they had nothing lined up ready to send over to Destiny except McKay. And why would McKay want to go anyway, Atlantis has a more up-to-date database of info.

The IOA and other governments would never allow them to do what they did here with taking over their gate. The whole idea was kinda stupid, I haven't seen SGC be this stupid in a long time.

I guess they rebuilt the building that was destroyed by the attack previously pretty quickly.

Such a wasted opportunity with McKay, very wasted.

I'm giving it a 4, and that's generous.

How stupid am I. I was not watching what I was doing and gave this ep a 9 instead of a 7.
I was really hoping for a scene with Rush and Mckay.

If it were a ratings grab then it would have been in the first half of the season, when they actually mattered.

The producers didn't know the series was cancelled when they produced this episode. Ratings late in the season are just as important as ratings early in the season when it comes to renewal. Of course it's stunt casting. Unfortunately, stunt casting far too late to matter.
