Considering that this episode had people hallucinating things they wanted to happen, how is James and Scott having sex uneccesary?
It wasn't in the context of a show that does such scenes a lot. All I'm saying is that this show does not do such scenes very well and I question the reasons for their inclusion.
I don't have any issue with sex scenes in general, only when they feel like they're thrown in there to make the show "edgy".
"Edgy" for me as a Sci-Fi fan is the storyline opportunity they missed with Wray here.
What, should have have shook hands and said 'pleasure doing business with you' instead? Anyway, what is the problem with the fact that James is lonely? I discussed her character with a friend recently, and came to the conclusion she's looking for more then sex, she's looking for a stable relationship, someone that she can support and that will support her.
The problem is that I'm having trouble engaging with the character and this sympathy the writers are trying to evoke from me isn't there. That's as much my fault as it is theirs, I guess. I can only express how I saw an episode.
Also, like other's have said, consider how she found out that she was cast aside, she came up upon Scott and Chloe acting like a couple of high schoolers with two free seconds to suck face, and then Scott acted like she was the one being the bitch in the situation. What a crock, and I don't mean on her part, I mean on his part.
Sure, don't get me wrong on this - Scott has acted like a complete jerk. He drops her like a stone, doesn't even have the decency to actually tell her why and then openly flaunts his relationship with Chloe in front of her.
I can certainly deal with her storyline a whole lot easier then the storyline of the civilians deciding that the military is evil, simply because they are the guys with the guns and therefor need to be under lock and key, except for when they are needed to act as a human shield.
Well, for one thing, the IOA - the people who pay for all this - is a civilian organisation. Effectively, Colonel Young and co have staged a coup just by being there.
Young only has O'Neill's authority to give orders. O'Neill might take his authority from the President but even he doesn't have the final say so on the Stargate programme.
While I don't agree that they should just be human shields, as Wray says, the purpose of the military is to protect civilians, not to command them. A civilian must always be at the top in any such structure. And in general, the guns should be locked away outside of a combat situation.
