That wasn't very helpful because it seems like a false premise to me. I haven't seen melodrama or soapy BS (and I remember Melrose Place, so I know what "melodrama" means to me); I've seen well-written, realistic and well-acted adult relationships.

Ok, I guess we have different standards to judge by. I came to a different conclusion. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I didn't.

I hope the writers aren't paying attention to either camp, because right now they're giving us something different; and so far I'm enjoying it.

Sorry, but how is a soap opera different?
No apology necessary. It's different because we haven't seen it before in Stargate. And because unlike "soap operas," the relationship drama isn't the main thing here. It's pretty well-woven into their sci fi plight.

I'll agree that it is different from previous Stargate series. But, I'll disagree, the stones are there to allow them to shoehorn in additional soap elements.

You're so far off the mark it's not even funny, I stopped watching SG1 after the first five eps.

The first five episodes of SG-1 had "Children of the Gods" and "The Enemy" within, both very good episodes. Straight after the first five epsiodes, we got "Cold Lazarus", a great episode in my opinion, and then "The Nox", "Thor's Hammer" and "The Torment of Tantalous". Episodes which not only were enjoyable and of good quality, but developed interesting regular characters like O'Neill and Jackson, but also had interesting guest characters.

Universe has been crappy episode after crappy episode, populated by boring or outright annoying characters.

And originally I gave up after The First Commandment, it just didn't click with me originally. And O'Neill and Jackson came from the movie so they already had alot of character development. And I can't agree that all the Universe eps. have been bad, I like Time, Light, Darkness, Earth and Air.

Oh FFS, the first season of SG-1, yes it had some terrible episodes in it, but they were INTERESTING episodes, the characters were likeable and fun to watch, things were happening in the show, it held your interest and excitement. As MNM says, Universe has been a snooze-fest of dull uninteresting episodes that seem to think that in 30 minutes of boring crap, 10 minutes of interesting storytelling is enough.

And when you say you like Time, Light, Darkness (only you, DWF, could like Darkness), Earth and Air...

Hang on... you didn't like 'Water' and 'Life'?? The only other two episodes that have aired that you didn't mention. So you're saying... you didn't like two episodes of Stargate?

I thought it was the bald soldier who was the one getting killed in this week's episode?

Otherwise maybe the guy who is 'at the end of his rope' will be the one to bite the bullet. Or is that too obvious?

I really liked this episode but I do understand the gripes people have. I do really enjoy the moments where you can just follow the characters around. Sometimes though it can get a little sappy. I usually laugh at those moments though so I enjoy it anyway! This episodes about average or above average to me.

This episode would have been fine if it were sandwiched in between lots of interesting, action packed, dramatic, exciting episodes that held your attention throughout...

But it's not. It's just more of the same sappy soapy crap.
