At STLV, they writers/producers did everything they could to keep the Jeri Ryan reveal a secret. Jeri was saying she had to wear a hood when she was not shooting, even at the City Walk at Universal. I was quite amazed about that.

Well, about the twin sister, I don't know. Maybe in an parallel timeline... :D
(by the way, Janeway's current family was composed by a mother named Gretchen & a younger sister named Phoebe).

So, is this show gonna clash with the VOY relaunch books? Will we be forced to imagine that things are happening in a "parallel universe" or in a "different dimension" or wherever?

Not that I particularly like those books … the last I read was the one when Janeway came back (no idea what it was called). Have they come back from the Delta Quadrant yet? Or will they have by the time the Picard show has started?

Or has the Star Trek universe timeline(s?) just become more … messy?

The Voyager series contains several timelines. There's the one where Harry is safely back on Earth with his girlfriend, the one where Janeway and Paris caused a planet to burn itself up. the one where Kes marries Tom, the one where Voyager crashed on a frozen planet, the one where Voyager is wrecked by the krenim, the one where it took them 19 more years to come home... And I am pretty sure I left out a few.

Probably, I'm sure the books were never a consideration in making this series.

Having seen Star Trek from its first outing in the 60s, I can say I have never been forced to imagine anything happening in any of that stuff. I guess my TV is dimensionally transcendental or something.

Presumably, they got back since Janeway was in the admiralty in Nemesis and Seven is running around with Picard these days.

    See above.

Such continuity questions are best answered by a paraphrase from Good Omens:
Star Trek Continuity is like being involved in an obscure and complex variant of poker in a pitch-dark room, with blank cards, with a content creator who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.

There's one more Voyager novel coming, which will presumably tie things up for their ongoing storyline.
They're releasing a novel in 2020 called Collateral Damage, which is said to be "the culmination of 16 years" and is likely the finale to the current novelverse continuity. Then they start making books tying into the various new Star Trek Universe shows and their versions of events.

It's basically what happened to Star Wars novels when The Force Awakens came out, or what happened to loads of Trek novels when The Next Generation or Enterprise began.

I've really enjoyed the Trekverse Lit over the last many years. it kept Star Trek "alive" for me during its long absence on film and tv. Kind of bummed it's ending but once they went serialized with an ongoing arc it was inevitable.

Oh, just read that Jeri Ryan has confirmed that Seven will wear civilian clothes. OUF. What a relief! :D Not that she couldn't wear her famous colored suit as seeing as she is still superb but seriously at more 51 yo, it could have been ridiculous!

As for the Doctor, I don't expect him being all happy & sarcastic like in Voyager. Robert Picardo got older and lost in the same time, a little of his superb. Cf to his performance in Renegade to understand what I mean... . That being said, he is still a fabulous actor! :techman:

The last time Wil spoke about it publicly, it was last month in an Instagram story where he was taking questions while waiting at the DMV. :p He said he hadn't been asked but he would absolutely love to return if he was.

The pictures of Frakes and Wheaton together were from a convention in Raleigh NC, also last month.

Frakes directed her "first 2 episodes" meaning she will appear in more than 2 and she'll make her return in Ep3:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

The season is 10 episodes so even if she only appears in 3 eps that's already a large portion of the season. Heck yeah!

I wonder if there will be flashbacks to her time with the Collective. Drone Seven looked awesome.

Since Seven/Annika was just a civilian member of the crew with a science background (a civilian laborer, in other words) giving her a Starfleet uniform would go against precedent and protocol as to how people are on Starfleet ships.

Isn't half the crew on Voyager "civilians"?

Which ones besides Naomi Wildman, Neelix, and Kes plus (if the production staff were to have been able to wrangle it) Rain Robinson?

Many of the Maquis were non-Starfleet or ex-Stafleet.

It was highly irregular to allow the Maquis to become members of Starfleet, even key positions, LIke Chak or B'Elanna. It could have offended some of the regular Starfleet people that people who aren't even Starfleet top begin with, get to give them orders after they've gone through all the years of dues necessary to get even the smallest rank!!! Remember Picard still being a Lieutenant junior grade at past SIXTY!!! While being evaluated a good officer by his superiors!!!

Oh come one, under pretence of respecting protocoles/policy imposed by Starfleet, Janeway, at multiples times, allowed herself to make and break rules/regulations and precedents when it suited her well and examples are numerous!

About clothing issue, I remind you that she imposed to Chakotay and his crew to wear a standard Starfleet uniform to better blend into the already existing crew but allowed them too to wear a symbol which differentiated them from others who wore the traditional pips ; she let Kes and Neelix a total freedom in the choice of their clothes under the pretext they were just civilians.
Seven is another problem: she was maybe a civilian but she know what the word "discipline" meant, a remembrance from her 18 years spent in a Borg Collective ... even if yes, she took a great pleasure in doing only what she wanted and when she wanted. But right the moment, she trusted Janeway and some of her people, she began to follow orders. Plus, I will add that she had the knowledge to hold her position of Head of Astronomy Dpt and knew a lot of things in Engineering Dpt, an Starfleet uniform would have allowed to feel completly accepted as one of them.
Of course, she would have needed a special uniform offering the same advantage as the catsuits she wore but well, an uniform remains an uniform, right?! It is not so much the cloth in itself which counts but the feeling to be a part of something.
Besides, I note that in some fanfictions, Janeway ended to offer her one specially made for her and with pips, of course!
