yeah, Orci and Kurtzman seemed a little bit p-od at the gold tooth. interesting. my respect for Bay is falling really fast. and it wasn't that high before.
You actually had some before?

I just read the MSNBC report.
Not a word about the NuTrek film as a comparison.
While NuTrek is important to the posters here, it was never going to be the all time blockbuster that was anticipated.
The dust from Transfomers has hidden your flick.

Star Trek is a solid box office success. It didn't break any records, but to suggest that record-breaking is the standard for success is just ridiculous. With a $13 million weekend, Disney and Pixar Animation’s “Up” became the year’s top-grossing film domestically at $250.2 million. It surpassed Paramount’s “Star Trek,” which did $3.6 million over the weekend to hit a $246.2 million total.

Oh come on. Yes there's a thing called potential - but there's also a thing called "making a movie for a particular age group". Transformers is a movie for teenage boys. And it can't really be a surprise to anyone that teenage boys like gross humour and find characters created to be stereotypes funny.
I don't like movies like that, but I'm not going to criticise anyone else for watching them, or anyone for making them. I'm not their audience. I think the American Pie movies are stupid too. I wouldn't watch them, but I'm not at all surprised that they are successful.
Same with Transformers.

Although I'm sure teenage boys get a kick out of Transformers, it's really for the 30ish male crowd (like myself) who grew up with Transformers. We all have jobs and alot of disposable income (we're not caught up as much in family/medical/house bills) and will gladly flock to the theaters. I've already Transformers 2 twice, and I'll probably see it again next weekend!
Oddly enough, American Pie was for us too. We were that age back then!
We're getting more Trek, so I'm happy.
Oh right, because it's a popularity contest.
I forgot Trek was all about being popular.
If that's Orci and Kurtzman's idea of a big blockbuster sequel....
We're in huge trouble.
Transfomers, Revenge of the Fallen. Worst 'big' film this past decade. Awful garbage. Boring, over-long, a giant mess, horrible editing, pathetic acting and script and terrible pacing. That's two and a half hours of my life I'd like back.
Trek 2 could be in trouble. Hopefully it's mostly Bay's fault.
