Some chatter, patter and jargon, but not a lot of quips or jokes-before, during or after Connally's horrific death. Everything is serious and professional. So "thumbs up?" Rather typical of DISCO action scenes. Played like most fighter jet pilot scenes from war movies.
She is vastly overrated.
Man, that whole Connolly thing was so eye-rolling. It's like they wanted to kill someone off in the action scene, but didn't want us to feel bad about it, so they went out of their way to make the audience hate him in record time.
Nothing wrong with that. I thought Olsen was more annoying in ST09 with trying to make him into some adrenaline junkie.
Classic jerk gets killed trope. Dead meat comes in two flavors: Guy who's like a brother (usually with wife and kids) or Arrogant cocky jerk whose arrogance gets him killed. Third option guy XX days from retirement (If a mentor figure)
Fourth option: An extra that wasn’t paid to have lines, so nobody cares.

Fifth option: guy who's about to replace or serving as a placeholder for a hero character (Olsen/Scotty, Sonak/Spock)

Completely random fact I feel like mentioning, the actor who played Olson in 2009, Greg Ellis, played a Cardassian in a Season 7 episode of DS9.

I already mentioned this elsewhere on the forum, and pointed out that the timeline matches up for the USS Vengeance guy to be Kelvin Timeline San.
I hope the guy's good in at least one of the universes.
