Spoilers Section 31 General Discussion Thread

I'm looking forward to it as its own thing. I'm not expecting it to be "Inquisition" or "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges". I'll either end up thinking it's good in its own way or it'll be a guilty pleasure. It's going to be one of those two. I won't be sure where I'll land until I see it. All I can tell is, I won't think it's dull.

If I end up thinking it's a guilty pleasure, then I won't be able to justify to myself getting into long drawn-out arguments about it. Likewise, depending on what happens in it, I'm only going to look at what happens in the TV Movie and in the context of the TV Movie alone. To do otherwise will invite a rabbit hole that'll never end. That's what every discussion about Section 31 has told me, since 1998.

Instead, I'll save the energy for arguments about Tuvix.

They should have just sent her back to the mirror universe and tell a story about her trying to reclaim the throne from Spock who I guess would in charge at this point in time.

I can't hate something I have not seen yet. FWIW, I actually think the teaser trailer was better.

Now nothing precludes more members of the species escaping the planet before the apocalypse. If Bele and Lokai were able to leave the planet, why not others?

In dialog, Kirk knows of Cheron and that it is in an uncharted quarter. Definitely doesn't preclude the possibility of more or the fact that Bele had been hunting Lokai for like 50,000 years so I would say more colonies would be possible.

That could be interesting, but it looks to me like this is a Michelle Yeoh project first and a Star Trek movie a distant second. So that's how I'm looking at it.

I have to admit, it took me two tries to get through it. I reflexively clicked off at the ‘we are facing a threat unlike like anything Starfleet has ever seen’, ‘billions of lives are at stake’ lines. Then I remembered it's technically Star Trek, so I rewatched and got through it. I suspect it'll be much the same with the movie itself, something to get through rather than enjoy.

A very fair point. I'm thinking that they're hoping for "hey, did you know the hit sci-fi action movie Section 31 is set in the same universe as those dinky Star Trek shows?" to be a conversation people have. Whether that actually happens is... to be seen.

I've stopped watching four Star Trek series during first-run. Two during the Berman Era, two during the Kurtzman Era. Once you stop the first time, it becomes easier to stop afterwards. As soon as anything becomes "something to get through", that's when I know it's time to stop or time to skip it.

There are plenty of things I have to do IRL that I don't want to do. This is just me, but I don't want something that's supposed to be entertainment to become "something I have to do" as well.

Whenever I see someone who says, "I have to watch it all!", I've been telling them for years, "No, you don't!"
